I learned an elmsly holding the cards by the sides. JC WAGNER holds them more,...in his hand and looks like he might be handling them different? Is the handling the same as a regular elmsly? I keep getting my factory misprints" packet-trick screwed up and I think its my elmsley count. I use the same one used in Twisting the ACES.. CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!! THANKS. DB

Hi DB,
Welcome to the Café! One of the greatest features for researching topics is the Café Quicksearch function at the top of the screen, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the amount of information you will find when typing in "Elmsley Count." As an aside... JC Wagner's version, as you describe it, is the more traditional handling (as explained by Alex Elmsley). Best of luck! |

It's just beneath the Café logo, at the top of the page. |

Most people tend to perform the Elmsley count at the finger tips. This is fine for a small packet of cards and it does allow for maximum visibility of the cards for the spectators.
However, a finger tip Elmsley will not work as well when you are attempting to hide a larger packet of cards. For instance, try doing the finger tip count with seven cards. The packet is noticeably bigger and as a result, you need more cover to hide it. That's where the deeper grip Elmsley count comes in handy. The hand that pulls the cards away in an almost dealing motion helps to hide the thickness of the packet. Kent

Whether 'in the hands' or 'at the finger tips' the ACTIONS are essentially the same. In other words the count itself is the same: One off top goes to bottome switch of two off top and then count the last two singly to top and then bottom if you want to reset. Both to top if you want to follow with a Jordan. Best,

As a side note(and with the exception of Twisting the Aces), the 'in the hands' version just looks more natural in most situations.

I agree with MAGIGUY. It looks way more natural. Im using 5 cards though. So 1 off top to the bottom, push 3 off and count the last two I'm assuming? Going to try quick search now because I got caught up on "youtube.com" watching all kinds of magic stuff. Thanks db
