It depends on your skill in doing this kind of effect. I have seen old magicians with no idea of sleights, and kid magicians with a beatiful techniq. So it depends on you, and your skill.
By the way, I recommend you get Ricardo Fantasio´s Candles. I think that this great argentinian magician makes the best candles in the market. Of course, McBride´s candle is different. But for beginning, I would begin with the traditional candles... Fantasio´s candles. All the best magic Pablo Tejero

Hi,
You could buy "The magic of Jeff McBride." The tapes give you a lot of info on the Candle. You should probably have some idea about how you should produce the candle to get the full effect of the item. Yours faithfully, Dan Kirsch |

I know which candles you mean, the automatic lighting ones.
They look like church candles. He sells them on his web site. http://www.mcbridemagic.com Magical Regards Paul Dabek |

McBrides candle is cool. On his 2 volume video set The Magic Of Jeff McBride" he shows the handling, and an appearance. Get the candle, get the videos as well. that's what I did, now I am pleased. http://www.llpub.com

McBrides candle allows you to perform several effects. It is an excellent addition to a manipulation routine. Once you produce the candle, you can float it, perform flame tricks, produce a silk from the flame, etc. Basically, it gives you more quality time in a manipulation routine versus a standard appearing or disappearing candle.

Jeff makes everything look great, see it on tape, pick up the tips (but create your own "magic" with it!!).

I like Jeff McBride, but was not impressed at all with the candle. I just don't like the look of it. I will stick with my other candle effects.

I have only seen the candle being shown by Jeff, but I have HEARD that it is made very badly and is very unreliable.
I'd definately say do a LOT of message board hunting before buying it! Gary |

I like Jeff a lot also and have worked with him and usually love his stuff. His videos are invaluable but this candle ...I had the opportunity to get my hands on one and was really disapointed. The fantasio candles are excellent.

It is not made of the highest quality material, but I don't find mine unreliable, although it would depend on the individual lighing gimmick (which you can easily replace)
It is best for stage or distant parlor work. It absolutley is not for clsose up work. But properly used, it offers some nice possiblities. BroDavid

As a full-time professional, I use the McBride candle frequently. When I saw Jeff perform this live at a lecture it sold me right away, I particularly like the idea that he showed with the 'squeeze light' gimmick that can be palmed in the free hand and looks like you took the flame then swallowed it and it re-appears on top of the candle before turning into a silk. I use the above handling mostly for adult shows, it is a great lead-in for a dove production. If you ever have a problem with this candle lighting, a simple easy to get item is readily available to re-place the internal unit. I do not see why all the criticism.
