I was wondering if it would be possible to dye the corner of a silk white? If it is possible, what type of dyes would you use and where would you get them? Any advise on this would greatly be appreciated.

Probably not. It would be easier to dye all but the corner of a white silk another colour. You could try bleaching the corner of a coloured silk, but it probably wouldn't go completely white and might possibly cause the fabric to break down.

Bleach will melt silk into one big blob.

Bleach will dissolve the silk or burn a hole.

Ok. So don't use bleach. But how else can you do this? Thanks

Tie the corner of the white silk very tight and put in a balloon, and tie that tightly. Dye the color carefully.
Plan to ruin a couple of silks. Richard

What do I use to dye the silks? Is there some special dye you need to use?
Thanks for the advice so far. Rob Pond |

Do a Google search on the dye for silk.

There's a cold-set dye called Colorhue that, if it is at all like its predecessor Visionart, I'd highly recommend. It bonds instantly with the silk fiber and, as you paint it on instead of immersing it, allows you to have more control over where the dye goes. I've used it to make half-dyed silks with much success.
