Knowing the business and understanding it are not the same thing. We must not only know our business but understand it. Being able to sit in front of a mirror executing every sleight in the book perfectly and knowing every artifice in the world will do you no good unless you understand the business and the art in cheating at cards.
“We must, for the moment, lose sight of such details as "sleights" and "fakes," and confine our attention to broad principles which, superficially, may seem to be mere abstractions, of no especial importance to practical men.” N.M. Without mentioning any sleights or artifice does any one here have anything to say about the art in cheating at cards. Regards Tommy

All I can say is that you can practice all you want, but, "moving" in a game will always set your nerves on edge. Not to mention your concious Even the best of us can catch a hanger ....
The bigger the game, the greater the risk of getting hurt ! Conversly, the smaller the game, the less likely you will find a competent card cheat because it is not worth their time. After all they spent years practicing, why waste that time on a low stakes game. Other people enjoy performing the sleight to use in magic routines ... Much safer and you make people people feel happy ;-)

I have not found the bigger the game the better. However I think it’s a good point. To try and find the right marks is big part of the art. Without going into detail and very roughly speaking; We play poker in casinos and over a period of time, we get to know who has money and get to know them and then they end up playing in our game. The way to get to know people with money is to make them think you have more money than them, then they will want to know you.

I think a big part of the art in card cheating is being a good card player before you can become a good cheat. You could be the most technically adept card mechanic in the world and execute every move flawlessly but if you can't read or cover body language, a good card player will see through you very quickly.

Agreed and playing the hand properly is most important. Poker players are diagnostic. I mean you can’t do the wrong thing at the right time and expect them not to wonder what’s going on.

Clearly, winning with a hand that should have never been played will arouse suspicion post haste.
