I was rereading a Cameron book this morning as I sipped my coffee and enjoyed my morning smoke. I hadn't read anything of his in a long time, in fact the last time I read it I was not enamoured by it. Perhaps it was the heady rush of nicotine, caffeine, and a quiet winter morning, but it hit me how great it was, so I thumbed through another. Anyway, there was a quaint little effect (was it in Witches Brew)that was a homemade 6 page chapbook test. It inspired me and got the cogs grinding, and I began to envision making something far more elaborate.
A homemade grimoire, hand made and bound, that contained props in envelopes, had scripts, goetic seals, correspondances etc, etc, maybe 60 pages. I also thought every page would have a selection of repeating words I could force through various means. Sort of a Nick Bantock meets Charles Dexter Ward meets a Key of Solomon Booktest. I was just wondering if anyone had made type of a prop, and whether it had been worth months of effort. I'm not interested in methods, just other people's experiences. Cheers, Thamiel p.s thanks Charles Cameron, and Happy Halloween wherever you are! |

You may want to invest in Greg Arce's booktest (now that it has had a general release). Hi book test allows you to customize every page for use in the test (I can not say more in an open forum). His approach would seem ideal for what you are trying to accomplish.
Gotama
I asked the boy beneath the pines.
He said, "The master's gone alone herb picking, somewhere on the mount, cloud hidden, whereabouts unknown." (Chin Tao, 777-841, trans. by Alan Watts) |

Gotama is correct - the book is a b itch to make - but holey jumping freeholies is it great in concept (as I have been too lazy to make it myself...!)
As for Charles Cameron - I have most of his materials - he and Andruzzi and Raven and Sheils - blessed be for Halloween Bizarreness! (I still love Cameron's little golem!)

Thanks,
I will have to look into Arce's book test. I was just thinking of using 2 or 3 words that would subtley be repeated on each page, and forced using simple math, making it quite examinable without seeing a pattern. |
