The tip that helped me, was to keep a coin palmed whilst doing everyday activities. Also if you have chance video yourself in natural rest position + handling objects without the coin, then repeat with the coin palmed. Its amazing the difference in hand positions and movements at first. Then work at removing the differences.

My hands are large, so I had to use silver dollar to start. Once I got that down, I moved on to a half, then a quarter. I practiced every day on the bus on the way to work and back home, which gave me a couple of hours a day of practice. It took me several weeks to feel comfortable with the dollar, and a couple more apiece when I moved to the smaller coins.
Now, with nerve damage, I can no longer to a classic palm at all, so I've learned ways to substitute a thumb clip or finger palm.

WOOO HOOO!!!!! I got it!!!! I took a look at my hand at my side and looked at the natural position of it (thanks Jocce!). I looked at the natural V shape that the bottom of the hands make and I simply slid a nickel into it and it stayed. I was able to hold in in there for about 10 seconds before it came out. Now, after practicing it for a couple of days, I am able to hold just about any size of coin there for a lot longer while wiggling all my fingers and my thumb and I am able to almost flatten my hand right out! I can relax my hand 100% at my side and it stays in place. I even tried taking a nap with it in this posistion, I dozed off and 20 minutes later, it was still there!
Now I just have to keep practicing, and learning how to 'put it there'. Maybe I will get the hang of this magic stuff after all. Thank you to everyone for helping me understand this. |

Hi Reflex!!
Glad to see you are getting it to work for you. Payne says he's been a magician for 40 years without mastering the CP. I've been in magic for 36 years, and I understand. I've never been able to do it the way Roth does... I mean this guy has an INHUMAN Classic Palm! I've never seen anyone ELSE do it that well. Airship...I started small and went big! When I first started the CP, it was with a quarter. Then, when Half Dollars were needed to do certain effects, well...I had to learn ALL OVER again! That meant daily holding a Half in CP all day for days on end. I never got it perfect (i.e. Roth, LOL!), but got by pretty well. Then...two years ago, we were introduced to: MICKEY SILVER!!!!! Now I had to start over AGAIN!!! This time with Eisenhower SILVER DOLLAR coins! All of my skills with the former coins would just have to be learned over! Now, two years later, I STILL feel like a beginner! LOL! :) Doug |
