Occasionally during a show, at the end of a trick, I will have the kids yell out
"AND THAT'S HOWIE DIDIT" and then I tell them if they see me out on the street or in a store they can yell "THAT'S HOWIE DIDIT" |

For years kids were calling me by what part of my act they liked best. Some called me Magic Man, some Funny Man, Music Man, Puppet Man, and one year when doing recycling-type shows some called me Garbage Man.
I wish I could find a cool and catchy name, and maybe even one I could use as a magic word too. I guess I'll just keep looking. Bazinga! |

I have enjoyed the reading the thread, and seems like a great topic. I mainly do magic for church, but have thought about supplementing our income when we retire. I have thought about the name: "The Great Granny" My personna would be a grandmother that downplays magic, then surprises them. Maybe having a crocheted cape. "The Great Granny has to go bake cookies..." Any thoughts?

For the past 30 years I've been a DJ/Magician, providing music, magic and games for private parties. And since my specialty was doing bar/bat mitzvahs, using my real name Gary Silverman was the wise choice for attracting my Jewish clientele. But something I feel is equally important is having a catchy, memorable and or meaningful business name and or slogan to set yourself apart from the competition. My slogan is "Music with a Magic Touch!". I honestly get tons of jobs just because no other DJ's were offering the magic.
Now that I'm getting back into doing children'ts shows, I'm thinking of using the name that my 5 year old daughter always calls me - "Silly Daddy". My slogan will be "Magic, Music & Games for a Foolishly Fun Time!" My theory is that most kids like their Daddy's and also like someone that is silly which I definitely am (just ask my kids!), while letting adults know that I'm a daddy can be a big selling point since they will already know that I have plenty experience with kids. I've been reluctant to use this name since I'm a big fan of Silly Billy, but my kids have been calling me Silly Daddy for years so the name is meaningful and relevant - and hopefully others will feel it's unique enough in its own way. I don't wear a clown suit. I just act clownish. |
