I have been doing sidewalk shuffle close up for quite a while and I would like to try this effect out in my stage/parlor shows. I have seen that you can purchase the effect sidewalk shuffle as a part of the Ken Brooke line. I was just wondering whether the cards and routine is the same as the Martin Lewis routine.
I presume the cards for the Ken Brooke are bigger and therefore more appropriate for stage...is that correct? Thanks Simon

You can use the Martin Lewis routine with the larger cards. I have for the past several years.
Yes, the larger cards show up much better on stage than the jumbo cards you have been using. I still use the "regular" jumbo cards for parlor shows and save the larger ones for stage. I have used the larger cards for audiences up to 800 people. |

Thanks Doug. I have been doing it close-up for quite a while and it always goes down well.
I might purchase the larger cards. They seem expensive for just a set of larger cards but I guess it is worth it. I have seen Paul Daniels perform this and really like his performance of it too. Simon

Hi Simon:
Another option, but maybe more than you want to spend, is to have Cardmaker in Germany make you a set. I've had him make me several sets of different effects, each time with cards that are about 8.5 by 11 inches. Really big and beautiful. I just had a set of Monarch Monte cards made, and it cost me about $50.00 U.S. dollars to have them made and delvered. I think these are bigger than the ones offered by the Ken Brooke Range. You also have the advtange of picking your back design - I think the KB cards use Kingsbridge design - I think that's what it's called. Anyway, Cardmaker is a member here. Ron |

I have seen videos on this and the sidewalk shuffle just looks like an more gimmicked version of The Virginia City Shuffle I learned from an ETMCM video. Is this assumption of mine correct? Does one have any advantages over the other?

I bought a set of the Ken Brooke cards, years ago, but I haven't been able to use them for quite some time. I left them on a table, in direct sunlight, for a few hours, and the cards yellowed in the places that the sunlight fell upon them. You can even tell where another card blocked the sunlight. Suffice it to say I don't like what the cards are made from.

Personally I prefer both Joe Riding's 4 card trick with 3 cards and Harry Anderson's 4 card routine to Sidewalk shuffle. The riding routine is done with non gaffed cards. Also John Luka has a nice version of sidewalk shuffle done with non-gaffed cards. It's in one of his sets of lecture notes.
