So basically I'm going to be leading a magic club at my school and it's going to be a ministry to were we are going to use magic on the street to tell others about Christ. So my problem is I don't know how to incorparate the gospel and magic together. I HAVE NO FLIPPIN CLUE HOW TO USE A MAGIC TRICK AND PUT A GOSPEL MESSAGE IN IT. So if you could E-mail me or call my cell I would thank you forever.

Trying to come up with a Gospel routine in 24 hours is not a good plan. What type of magic do you perform? If you do cut and restored rope you could talk about how God can restore relationships especially with Him. You have to look at the things you know how to do and find a spiritual application. Change a red silk to white (Isa. 1:18). You can use the magicians force to pose the question can anyone really know the future. One of the first books I bought was From Tricks To Truth written by Doug Wathen the copyright is held by One Way Street Inc. This book would be good for each of your club members to get a copy of. It has simple things you can make or buy with good routines. On Andre Kole's web-site (http://www.andrekole.org/)he sells a routine for presenting the four spiritual laws. Please put some prayer and work into this project be for turning people lose on the street. My first trip to Russia my team came across a Teen Maina group and spent some time working with them. That was in 1992. Find one or two tricks and learn them well and practice the routine and patter until you can do it in your sleep. If you want to e-mail me you can reach me at: CGJG4Him@fuse.net I wish you the best. ChrisG.

Brett,
Given your lack of experience with putting a message to magic, I would recommend a different approach. Just do entertaining "street magic" to get people's attention. Do whatever it is you are comfortable doing and are good at. Then present the gospel without using magic. This could be as simple as handing them some sort of tract after the magic. http://www.livingwaters.com has some tracks and giveaway items you could use that fit with a magical theme. -Brad |

I agree with Brad. Don't try to force a Gospel message into every trick. One day, while performing or practicing a particular trick, a spiritual application will dawn on you and you'll wonder how in the world you missed it before. That's God's timing. Rely on that, rather than your own. In the meantime, learn how to effectively share your faith first and use the magic you can do to break the ice and open up doors to share your faith. The tricks don't have to have a message right away or even at all in some cases. The strength is in the message, not the trick. Use the tricks to open up a way to present the message. Brad was right. I've gone to LivingWaters.com for many years now and use their tracts all the time. They have a coin that has the Ten Commandments on one side and a Gospel message on the other. ...Great for producing from nowhere or as a give-away after performing a different coin trick with one. They have Million Dollar Bills that look like real money, but have a Gospel message around the back edges. Those are great for bill switches. They have a curved illusion tract that is an optical illusion that you can freak them out with and then give them one of their own. People hold onto those types of tracts and the message gets out without you having to try to work spirituality into every one of your tricks. They are priced very fair, too, (the Million Dollar Bills are $5 for 100 tracts).

Here's what I do (because I have never yet managed to pull of an illusion and deliver a message at the same time without it sounding cheesy)...
Keep the magic and message separate. Let the message speak through your professionalism and etiquette. If you really want to deliver, redirect the final applause to your Savior and let the audience know that. Your demeanor and attitude can speak louder than a straight message.

Not sure if this suggestion will help - but you might think about attending a regional conference of the FCM. There's sure to be one coming near you sometime - and it's a great place to learn how to communicate a message with your magic.

I agree with Magicfingers. However there are some tricks that are just begging for a gospel patter. The rest can be good lead in's to the gospel message.
