I really like the Sankey idea as well. It really puts the heat on the bill so they won't look elsewhere. It doesn't come across as a "hey, he just switched the bills, let's see what he did with the old one" but more of a "wow, how did he get the holes to move?".

When I switch a bill I never "touch" the bill. I have a wooden rod (could be a wand)with a small bulldog clip attached to each end. One end contains my bill (to be switched-in) and is covered by my hand. I offer the other end to the spec who will clip on his bill. As I turn to hand the end of the stick to an assistant from the audience I merely switch ends with my hand. The bill of course is properly folded by the spec before attaching.

Sankey actually put out a DVD recently called Hundred Dollar Miracles. If you're looking for really out there variations of the bill switch, this DVD is definitely for you.
People criticize Sankey (fairly, IMO) for putting out a lot of garbage lately, but this DVD is really as good as a DVD dedicated to the 100 bill switch could possibly be. There really are a bunch of awesome effects. One that springs to mind is this: You show a piece of paper with a balloon drawn on it. You fold it up 18ths (is it 18ths for the bill switch?), then hear a "pop." You unfold the bill and there is a picture of a flat, popped, balloon. Sankey is at his best with this DVD.

The ONLY time I do a bill switch is when I leave a tip at a bar where I am working. Borrow a one from the tip jar (ask of course), turn it into a five (or whatever) and hand it to the bartender.
Why would I ever want to change a bill into something just to change it back? Change it and give it. Isn't that what real magic is about? There is great power in real money. I know there are many great ideas with the moves in mind but nothing I have read has more motivation or follows such a simple plot. Just my thoughts Mark |

TKD27 - unless you know a fold sequence that's different than most (e.g., 1/2, 1/3, 1/3), it would be 1/16ths instead of 18ths.

Steven,
I have nothing against anyone else and the way they do a bill switch. My point is just that "I" feel there is nothing more powerful then taking a bill, increasing it's value and giving it back. I personally don't want to take something from someone so I have motivation to return it to the original form. As you state "their usually not happy about losing $99". Why should anyone be the least bit concerned about their money? What has motivated you to make their money worth less so you can change it back? I am not saying your idea does not work, just that I still feel that simply increasing the bill is the simplest plot with no confusing motivation. Again, your style as a magician may make your switch work great, I am no judge of what others do. I have enough to worry about trying to make my magic...magical. Cheers |

I agree that changing it back weakens the performance.
Personally I use the Juan HDBS as a finale to a paper money routine where the specs have been handling both my bills and their own bills and I use the switch with my own bill to demonstrate how I really made all my money.
