Ellen,
Thank you so much for sharing your memories. I was born in 1956. I see you live upstate... I was born in Amsterdam, NY... grew up in a small town just north of their called Perth. To those who watch the video... the end is fantastic... watch it all the way through. Tom

Wow! The fifties, when wearing ties was considered common place!
I was a year old when this was shot, but I remember imagery like that from my own family Christmases. Thanks, it was nice to see.

Wow, I was 4yrs old in '56. The following year my dad bought a '57 red and white Chevy. Christmas is a magical time of the year for all children. My dad was a Navy man and we lived in Norfolk, Va. in '56. I remember the snowy holidays, the smell of fresh pine, Bing Crosby on the HiFi, the unforgettable fruitcake (ugh).
& the anticipation of Santa Claus leaving our presents under the tree. Seeing that train under the tree brings back memories of the Marx train set I had, which adorned the tree every year! Thanks for the stroll back thru memory lane! Cardamagically, <<<KRaZy4KaRdZ>>>

Ellen, those old movies were pure MAGIC!! They brought me back through the halls of time and made me feel so very WARM inside my heart.
It's funny, ..I love my modern video cam, but those old silent, 8mm home movies from the 50's have a special charm and magic that is hard to top. The nostalgia nudges me very gently in all the right places. My dad took a lot of those kind of old movies, and the magic is undeniable. And adding a "Bing sing" just puts the icing on the proverbial cake. It just stirs up a lot of dormant emotions that we had forgotten were even there. There's nothing like Christmas in the old days, and I even wonder if Christmas had lost it's magic in these modern days in which we live. I suppose for me, since I lost my beloved Diana, it will all seem so very hollow. I don't even care if I decorate or put up a tree or anything. But that's just me.

Of course I have never met you or your Wife but I'd be willing to bet that your Wife would be the first person to insist that you put up a tree even if it is just a little one and decorate just as you always have when the two of you were together. Think of it as a tribute to the life that the two of you have shared in the past and remember the good times you had and how both your lives were enriched with each other's company. Think of it this way. If it was you who passed on would you want your wife to be depressed and gloomy for the Holiday season or would you want her to put up a tree and decorate while listening to her favorite music and remembering the good times the two of you have shared? If you really want to get through the Holiday's feeling good about yourself and at the same time making someone else very happy, give a gift to someone in a rest home or a child who doesn't get to have much of a Christmas. Your Wife will smile down on you and you will feel much better. Happy Holiday's Doug and everyone here at the Magic Café. Iven
