Hi all,
I'm thinking of doing my 3c monte and 3 shell game on the sidewalk here in a month or two. of coarse its demo only, no gambling. has anyone here done that before? have you ever had trouble with police thinking that you're hustling? |

Most places have a "Shoot first, ask questions later" policy. Well... they may not shoot you, but you might find yourself explaining to a judge after a night in lockup that you were only kidding.
IF you decide to do this, clear it with the local police first, including any beat cop you might see near your pitch. Explain exactly what you want to do treating it as if it's a public service trying to educate them to not play the game. Hey, it's worth a shot. What do you have to lose? A night or two in jail? I would have thought SLC would be the last place to allow gambling games on the street. If they do, it's a far different SLC than I remember.

Scaress I heard a pastor say one time why look for external solutions to a internal problem? The problem with a sucker is not a external problem it is a internal problem. The problem with a sucker is that they have larceny in their heart. The 3cm/3sg is not their problem. YOu can wake them up to the 3cm/3sg but this isn't going to help! They are suckers and they have larceny in their heart! YOu gonna have to follow them around everyday of their life because their are a lot of con games out there! YOu are wasting your time! So if you want to help these people tell them "Hey sucker you cant get something for nothing"! This is dealing with the inside!!!!!!! But anyhow I know how you can do the 3cm/3sg on the street and not get arrested. God get you a license and when the cops come up to arrest you show them your business license and tell them that you are only doing it for magical/amusement purposes and have your business name something like "Street Magic". I ran cons on the streets for years and whenever the cops rode down on me I always had a license! That license saved me a lot of times. Another option is get you a police scanner! lol. It worked for me.

Thanks guys.
I'm no saint, I don't really want to give a public service announcment, I do want to make some money. not by hustling, but just using 3CM instead of cups and balls. the licence is a great idea, I'll get one, I think they're not too expensive here. Dave V., SLC is JUST like you remember it, the thing that I'm counting on to save me from cops is the hope that the fuzz around here doesn't know what 3CM is!! |

I have had the plainclothes try to entice me into a betting game. I replied no, this is just for fun. I even offer them a prize if they guess right. They have always left me alone. Flashed the badges and replied, "Keep it that way!"

I was in Seattle down on the waterfront all 3 times. Many times they've watched the show, laughed and walked on. There are times I've been rousted. Somebody had been shot or stabbed in the area and the cops were tightening down. Had nothing to do with the shells, just busking in general. They were always polite about it. Walked up and whispered, "After this show you have to move along." Most of the time they take a look and keep walking.

I did the Pike Place Market for years. I prefer the waterfront as I can work all day and not just an hour and get moved on by the next performer. You must have been working around the market or up around 5th by the Bon?
