In responding to a post by one of our members from Portugal, I realized that I could not address him by name. The reason is that his name contains a letter with an accent mark above it.

I tried to search for an explanation of how to produce such characters for use in this forum. Nothing showed up. Maybe I didn't think of the right search terms.

I couldn't find this information in F.A.Q. either.

So, could someone take a few minutes to explain how?

If you are using Windows, click Start, Run..., and type "charmap" (no quotes) and click OK.

BTW, this is how to say "Café": for the "é" hold down alt and on the number pad type 1-3-0.

The easiest way? Highlight, copy and paste. If you don't know those shortcuts - you should learn them! They're invaluable to me when coding.

Dancin carrot, you don't need to do that to write the word Café here. I added that word without the accent mark to the "bad words" list, and it is automatically replaced with Café with the accent mark. But thank you for posting the shortcut - I need to learn those as well!

You dont need the codes

just use "Ctrl+Alt" and the letter you want to accent.

Ctrl+Alt + a e i o u = á é í ó ú
Ctrl+Alt+Shift + a e i o u = Á É Í Ó Ú
