I agree with that a great magician makes audiences wish the show would never end.

This is what I have been wondering too. I mean there are COUNTLESS numbers of people who are able to do a perfect sleight but how many of them are really known or really have a reputation as a "great magician"? No many.

JamesR, said it correctly.
When your spectators are begging for more, and you have done several encore effects, and they still don't want the show to end, you are a great magician. Once you have done just one show like this, you will know that anything less is unacceptable.
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

Bad Mag. gives a 'wooden' lack lustre performance and is liable to be easily thrown off balance.
Good mag. can handle routines well and get by. Great Mag. conveys a sense of fun to the audience, handles routines well, can cope with the unexpected, and leaves them wanting more! |

Michael Ammar has a good quote on one of his cups and balls videos. I can't remember who he gave credit to in regards to the quote, but, I'll summarize it.
If Hollywood were to film a movie about a magician, they would hire an actor to portray the magician instead of an actuall magician. We are all actors pretending to be magicians. Someone else came along and said what should have been said was that the magician is an actor pretending to be a GREAT magician. Food for thought !!
In December of '06 I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans. One in a million people worldwide are diagnosed with this type of cancer annually. Sarcomas account for 1% of all cancers. Knowledge is power!

It was Robert-Houdin who said, "A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician." It was Groucho Marx who said, "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's much too dark to read."

A well known film director once said, "An entertainer gives the audience what it wants. An artist gives it something it doesn't know it wants."

Bad magicians know how their tricks are done, but not how to do them really well, whereas good magicians know how to do them properly. For example it is better to do 5 tricks brilliantly, than 15 sloppily

Everyone has a different opinion on what a "bad, good, or great" magician is. It depends on your audience's personal tastes, whoever they may be. And no magician can please everyone 100% of the time. Some of it also depends on what you think makes a great magician, but most of it lies with the audience.
