I’m wondering if anyone here can help me out? I’m trying to locate someone who has the run of (3) issues of an early magazine entitled “Escape Wizard”. It was very short lived, only running for three issues, April, May and June 1916. I have a few questions as to some of the firms advertising in them, etc. It was followed up by another short lived publication, this thime called Wizard Monthly. It had only a five issue run, Oct & Dec 1916 and Jan, Feb & April 1917.
Hope to hear from someone. Regards, Mark Damon |

( see http://www.ealib.org/newsmags.htm) You might want to e-mail shawn@ealib.org. I believe a full set of Escape Wizard plus an almost complete set of Wizard Monthly went for 450 dollars at auction in 2000. |

Mark,
Thanks for your reply, and link/contact information. What I am seeking is information on escape artist John H. Oaks (a.k.a. “Mighty Oaks") 1889-1918, and his Oaks Magical Company of Oshkosh, WI. I was wondering if there were any articles by or about him, or any ads for the magic company in the issues. I’m collecting information and hope to put out a small pamphlet/book at some point. Anyone out there with anything to share about the above would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Mark Damon |

Hi thorndyke,
Yes, it was I who started the Oaks thread a few years back looking for information. I thought I would try asking again for the new readers in this area. Thanks though, Mark |

Looking at his dates, suggests that he died either in WW1, or of the flu.

Escape Wizard – JH Trudel (April 1916-June 1916)
____________________________________ Extreem: In regards to your reference in the above link, "Escape Wizard" was published by Charles A. Bohem, and the editor was Van Tome. ...as far as I know, Trudel had nothing to do with it, nor with "Wizard Monthly". |

...and there was also an Escape newsletter called "I.C.E." (published in Europe?), during the 1990's. |
