Hi, I have been floating around the Café for quite sometime now, normally I will stay in the bizarre area, but I have been really enthralled with silks as of late, but I haven't the slightest where to start?
I have Mark Wilsons course, and Bill Tarr's book, but that is the only thing I silk magic I own. Where would be the best place to start? Thanks! Your friend, ~Mayo

Great advice. You may also want to look into P&A Silk dvds on silk magic. There are only three dvds right now from P&A Silks, but he'll be releasing the rest of his silk dvds this year.(They are being converted from VHS to dvd).

Right Algebraic, I forgot about P&A, great source. Another two sources are right here in MC. Bob Sanders and Richard Hughes. They are both a great wealth of info, outstanding gentlemen, and class acts.
Posted: Jan 6, 2007 3:21pm Fogot to mention, Duane Laflin is going to be doing his newsletter again. You can sign up via email through his website or Lock Family Magic website. I forget if it is going to be a email or paper newsletter. |

Richard Hughes & Bob Sanders - Recently also met Duane Laflin & to see his act Live changed my whole thinking on silk magic - which is brilliant - pack small play big!! |

I second the Laflin DVDs. They're absolutely phenomenal...Duane Laflin is an excellent instructor. He's so thorough it's just like getting a personal lesson. I have a 'normal' kids show I do that involves a large trunk full of all sorts of props (square circle, crystal silk cylinder, hippity hop rabbits, dove pan, etc.) I'm in the process of creating a second act that is more along the lines of 'packs small, plays big' and silk magic is at the center of it. I think there are a few props that you'll want in your arsenal regardless of which way you decide to go...A change bag is a must, and I'd also recommend a Phantom tube or similar device that allows you to produce silks seemingly out of nowhere. Then there's the obvious: A TT and dye tube. I don't think you can go wrong with these basic items, and they'll open the door to a lot of possibilities. Good luck, and have fun

Jeff McBride's Stage Magic DVDs are another good source for slik magic. Vol. 2 contains a lot of great routines.
