Fun with hypnosis by Professor Svengali (the book that slim refers to)has some good ideas for stage hypnosis and give you the bare basics.
Here's a few suggestions to give you a better base on hypnosis in general hypnosis for beginers by William W Hewitt hypnosis ..secrets of the mind by Michael Streeter hypnosis:medicine of the mind by Dr.Michael D Preston a good book for induction techniques and depth testing hypnosis for theater and stage by E.A.Hutchinson I had this book years ago and it was stolen out of my truck.I have yet to find another copy ,if any one reading this can tell me where I can find a copy it would be greatly appreciated any way I hope this helps you out. I believe The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by Ormond McGill is a must since it is the most comprehensive text ever written on the subject. The wealth of information contained within will have you opening the book every once in a while for reference. In 640 pages the subject is truly demystified. I would also recommend purchasing hypnosis dvds so that you can view the inductions being performed.

I really like Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development... he's the only Freudian who didn't overtly contradict Freud but expanded on his theories and the ego's interaction with environment...
Oops Wrong Board! Wrong EriCkson Kidding aside, thanks for that affirmation sir now I know that B and G's book isn't entirely crackpot to begin with... |

But what can be proven? Some say Bandler and Grinder don't have empiricist data to validate their claims... and there are some who say they DO.
I'd stay on the middle ground. And TRY and read all sides. To compare, I mean can WE honestly say Behaviorism is better than Cognitive Psych or the other way around? I don't suppose anyone can when they are THEORIES. Since this is a tentative post that makes no "claims", I take it it's all right to make it... But back on topic, yeah what are the books to the right direction? :) |
