My post above should of read:

1. D4 (Corona white)
2. C5 (davidlai blk)
3. D5 (Corona White)
4. Nf6 (Magnus blk)

and my move will be...

5. NC3 (Corona white)

My apologies for the oversight,

Corona.

I am an International Grand Master do you really want a piece of this? I guess I could add Israel to my collection of USA, Mexico and the UK. Would that up my status though? If not it would not be worth it. Smile

Ahhh. So YOU are the elusive Mr. James defeating all the GMs at the Internet Chess Club.

The Daff here was the world's number one chessaholic..played a few thousand games against some fine software...played on world chess network and gameknot...but sadly. after the death of my wife in Nov, the chess I once loved suddenly became drudgery. I haven't touched it since.

Now, why do I strongly doubt that ChiChi is, in fact, a grandmaster? I've mostly given up serious chess for serious bridge, but I have a USCF rating of a bit over 2100...sometimes I dust it off and play serious chess. I also goof around with speed chess on ICC (internet chess club: http://www.chessclub.com). With white, I generally play e4, and with black, the Najdorf Sicilian against e4, and the Dutch or King's Indian against d4.

Here's a better test. If you know what zugzwang means (without looking it up) then you are a chessplayer. Don't give the definition yet; just let us know if
a) you know what it means,
b) whether you've experienced it, and
c) if it's something you enjoy.

John

a) Yup
b) Yup
c) Only when I'm the zugzwanger...ain't no fun being the zugzwangee.

Finding a good zwischenzug is much more enjoyable.

Go back and read the first page. It was all established there. I have never lost at this game.

Wow, dusted off a blast from the past thread. In 1985, I was the 8th most active tournament player in the United States Chess Federation.

Reading? Don't talk crazy!

Here's a simple puzzle. White to move and mate in 2.

Hint: The solution is not 1. a4.

On another note, Magnus, you are quite right about "fianchetto."

I've created animated and static chess games on another forum before, with the Kings being an animated version of the players.

It was obvious he knew nothing about chess when he referred to the pony piece as the horse.
