Hi Guys,
I'm currently having a problem with a restaurant that I work and am looking for some advice on how to handle it. Let me preface this by saying that the managers and the owner and I get along great. The same with the wait staff. My problem is inconsistent pay. I have been payed for every evening I work, but sometimes there is no check waiting for me when I arrive at the resaurant. I work every other weekend. I have gone as long as two performances w/o getting a paycheck. On the third time there is a check waiting for me that takes care of all three dates. This was the most drastic. Usually the owner is either on tie or one paycheck behind. It wrecks havoc with budgeting. I have a contract and also invoice them every performance. But, still the owner falls behind. I have a good relationship with all, so I have not pushed it. But...It's getting frustrating. How do you guys handle this? How should I bring it up to her to be more consistent with my paycheck? I have thought about giving her a six month calendar that will gently remind her when I will be there. Looking for some sound advice. Lou

Hi Lou, since you have a great relationship with everyone there, I would just strike a general conversation with the owner and during the conversation kindly request that the check is ready for you for each night, or if it's easier for them (and atill OK and convenient for you) then get paid once a month (as this will still give you the consistancy. I'd simply tell them it's rough on the books when it's not consistant and ask if they wouldn't mind helping with that. I'm sure it'll go over fine since there's no negativity there already.

Ask yourself if this is really a problem>,,,,if it is do as said above,...just have a NICE talk with management....dont make a big issue of it...if it isn't a problem then don't talk about it at all

Mak's right. Running a restaurant is exhausting work with long hours. What seem like huge details to you or me may be minor to the owner and pushed aside for a "more convenient" time. Approaching the subject with this subtext will let the owner know that you understand his situation. Opening a discussion on common ground makes it far easier to reach a win-win solution.
Good luck! Skip

Guys,
All good suggestions. I'll talk to her and suggest the once a month billing cycle. My wife works for a university, so we're used to the once a month deal. Sometimes you just can't see the forest for the trees

Every answer given here is right on the money. If nothing changes after your kindly request, don't walk around grumbling. You'll have to learn to accept the situation or find a new place to work.
