If I want to perform explosion by Dean Dill, which one do I have to purchase? What exactly is the difference between Dean's set, expanded shells and expanded shell sets? Thanks a bunch in advance. Edsel,

You should take a look at Dean Dills site for the props you need for Explosion. And be seated while you check out the price.

Explosion isn't cheap. You won't be buying this as a "fun piece to own."
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

Because in Dean Dill's site, it mentions I can purchase the Explosions Sets through coin gaffs. I wonder which one is it.
Thanks. Edsel,

I do not believe you can purchase all that you need except by his explosion set. The difference between deans set, expanded, and expanded shell sets is this:
An expanded shell is a coin shell that is expanded or stretched slightly to fit over another same type of coin. An expanded set is essentially a shell expanded (like above) and a number of regular coins that the shell has been tested to fit over within a certain tolerance. A deans set is a coin shell that has: 1) not been expanded or stretched. In other words, the diameter has not been altered. 2) a number of coins that have had the edges milled down slightly to fit within the non-expanded shell. i.e. the diameter has been slightly reduced. usually 3 or 4 coins are specifically made to fit in the shell and the shell covers more of the coin. You can also have any number of other similar sized coins such as an english penny made to fit. 3) The edges of all coins, including the shell, are also re-edged with lines to increase grippability (new word?). With a deans set, you could also add a regular expanded shell that would fit over the unexpanded shell which fits over the milled down coin. When the set is made, all coins fit perfectly. I do not own explosion so I really do not know what everything consist of, but I do own a deans set with a matching eng penny and a matching copper silver. Hope that helps! |

In Dean's referal to coin gaffs, he's specifically referring to http://www.coingaffs.com who manufacture's Dean's 'Explosion'. You can purchase the trick through that site, as well as Dean's. The prices are identical; so there really isn't a difference.
