"Hi, my name is Jo, I'm calling from Children Australia. We saw you perform at the playgroup association picnic and would love for you to perform at our trade show next week."
"Thanks so much! I'd love to attend. How many people are you expecting?" "About 5000. We like three shows at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00" "Wonderful! The price would be $1500 including tax" "Sorry?" "My price...it is $1500 including tax" "Oh...we wouldn't pay you!" "I see....you do realise I am a full time professional performer." "Yes...but think of all the free publicity!" "I get publicity at every show I perform but I still need to charge a fee." "Well the Crazy Gang perform free for us every three months and they have a weekly national TV show." "Really? Jill and Tony are good friends of mine. If they think it is worth giving up their $5000 per show fee to do your event then perhaps it is a good idea. I'll give them a ring and get back to you." "Oh...you can't do that. They are getting married so you won't get them on the phone." "Right...well I'm sorry I couldn't help you out." LATER THAT DAY "Hi, it's Jo, we've found the $1500 so we'd like to pay you." "I'm afraid I'm not available on that date anymore." "but we didn't say what date..." "Thank you, good afternoon." I spoke to The Crazy Gang (no their real names)and they are suing Children Australia (no their real names) for several thousand dollars for failure to pay. |

Yep...I wish them the best with their lawsuit. It's amazing what some people will try and think that they can get away with.
Glad you stuck to your guns and blew them off. Mark. |

They gave themselves up in the first call and out rightly admitted, "We wouldn't pay you."
Is there a Doctor Freud in the house? Edd

It is a very small world. I once had a big client which didn't pay me for months. I called the lady incharge of the check multiple times and never got anyone to pick up the phone and they said it would be at my mailing address withtin the next 3 days...Then a 5 days went by...and nothing. I ended up getting paid 4-5 months later.
Being consistant with clients and potential clients really helps. -john |
