Title: The Secrets of the Zombie BallWGMBTWGM
Medium: DVD Arena: Stand Up, Parlour Available: Any shop, distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies Inc, L&L There are some effects in magic that just look great. The movement, the gracefulness, the ability for the effect to separate the spectator from reality and make them believe in magic for a while. The Zombie Ball is one of those effects in my opinion, when done right. The zombie ball can be sold to the audience as comedy, mystery, or even romantic (or in the hands of Melinda sexual). Unfortunately many think that it looks too stiff to be magical and just don’t bother with it, those types don’t know how to work it. L&L has put together a greatest hits package on the Zombie Ball to go along with their other Worlds Greatest Magic By The Worlds Greatest Magicians.collection. All are distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies so you shouldn’t have a problem finding it where you find other great magic. The production level is good across the board and luckily we are not subjected to the L&L audience throughout most of the dvd. This is a great way to learn the Zombie taught by three guys who know the Zombie. Basically I was thrilled with this DVD and I think it is time I blow the dust off my zombie ball and get to work. The dvd opens with the man credited for popularizing the effect and that is Al Schneider. His work is very good and he has some top notch ideas on making the zombie look and move better. Very nice and informative. Next up to bat is Jeff McBride, a man who is considered by many to be the king of stage manipulation and a fellow who understands movement. This was a major part of the project and Jeff shows some really great moves and does a good job explaining them. He really is good and he is ‘regular Jeff’ on the dvd rather than ‘on stage Jeff’ which I like. Those who know Jeff know what I mean, he is a great guy who gets a bit mystical on stage but off he is stand up. I don’t know if McBride released a tape on just the zombie before but if this was just his part on the dvd it would still be worth it. Lastly we have the late great Tommy Wonder. Tommy learned the Zombie from Schneiders book and he has made some changes to the gimmick that add to the changes Al made. He provides a lot of information the others don’t over and it makes a nice finish to the dvd. There are some moves McBride teaches that can’t be done with the set up that Al and Tommy use but then again there are some moves McBride can’t do that Al and Tommy can. This is good because you can choose what work best for you. As I said I enjoyed this and it gave me a better understanding of the Zombie ant its potential and for those wanting to learn the Zombie Ball I’d say this is the way to go. |

Anyone know if the McBride material was released anywhere else? I already have Schneider and Wonder's material on zombie.
