One of my Kincaid ancestors wove tartans in Stirling at that time. I have one of them, though I have no idea what to do with it.

Aren't tartans as we know them today an invention of Sir Walter Scott?

No, but after the Battle of Culloden, the wearing of the plaid was banned. It was more by district or area than clan. The tartans and kilts that we know today are a Victorian invention, popularised by Queen Victoria and helped along by Sir Walter Scott.

The plaid was very different than the kilt in design. The kilt is very popular today up here in the Highlands and no wedding or 'occasion' is complete without the wearing of the kilt.

Even 'Nessie' is known to wear the kilt occasionally! Smile

I really love this effect "Culloden"created by Black Hart.
The story is part of my ancestral history so it fits me and is easy to tell.
The props provided are top notch and the method we are already comfortable with.
A real sprig of heather is such a nice touch. Thank you Keith for a fine effect here! Lang may yer lum reek!

Alright, I'll bite, having no Scottish kin now or ever - what is the thing between McDonald and Campbell clans?

The Massacre of Glencoe in 1692. Yes my M-I-L was good at bearing a grudge!

Highlanders have long memories, something to do with them being immortal.
