Did any of you guys have the VIP tickets. If so, what did you think? Would you buy them again?

I had VIP tickets, and I liked having an extra oppurtunity to see the close-up performers do their thing.
Also, there were three extra lectures (Juliana Chen, Jupiter and Greg Frewin), but I didn't have the chance to catch those. |

2007 was great and my first time. VIP tickets are nice I think. No limitations. T.

If Jupiter throws the cards at my head one more time I'm gonna go mad. He actually hit me in the face and made my eye water. I had a few words with him afterwords. what an arrogant magician

Think not what magic can do for you, but what you can do for magic.

I know t sound stupid but you try getting hit in the eye by a playing card. Jupiter continuously does it. He walks out and flings cards everywhere into the audience. no one enjoys it they just duck

Couple of comments from an outside point
What convention doesn't have politics of some sort!-Ive had my fair share of run ins mainly with people who organise 1 show at 1 convention ignoring advice from people who perform & organise large events 100 times a year!!-Good fun though! I see Sean getting a bit of a bagging in previous posts & a nice explantion by him as well but 1 point in being a Professional is also -rehearse & perform what you know -if it isn't what you expect don't do it-regardless All the relevant stage info you should have known about weeks in advance as we all do in big shows-there's always a way to find & recieve info on stages & space & platform risers etc especially your alloted time which sounds short etc>... You wouldnt perform an Levitaion in the middle of a cabaret surrounded by the audience if you found out they were seated that way when you arrived-you just wouldnt do it-always have a backup even when travelling!!! Hey sounds like a typical convention!! Im sure Sean will be in fine form if he returns- We all learn from these issues & that makes us better performers- Go get em Sean!!!!! |

Thanks Brent,
You are totally right regarding stage technicals, etc. I did get the info I needed from the Theatre in preperation but it was more a time issue than anything else. In hynesight I think I was way too ambitious trying to do this in a competition and didn't really anticipate being soooo rushed - not that was any of the crew's fault, I mean they were extremely under pressure themselves because of the amount of acts on and so little time - I should of thought about the time factor more and not rely so much on the use of the crew - you see, everything we did in the competition is part of our reportoire - we didn't suddenly decide "oh this would look good, lets do this for the competition!" Someone said in another forum it wouldn't even have fooled a lay audience!! Which is rubbish because it has fooled a high profile corporate company!! I have learnt a lot from this and although I fealt terrible all last week, I'm now turning this into a positive and we're now working on some new unique ideas! Thanks again everyone for your understanding and maybe we can come back next time and get a different reaction. Kind regards Sean |

Sean,
Great to finally meet you and talk to you after the convention in the Ruskin. Have you had any more thoughts on the levitation that we talked about? And next time I want to see the waistcoat in the act! The best of luck to you with the television work. Hope to speak to you soon. |

By the way, talking about NESTOR HATO, the manipulation act at the gala...
His color changing hair blew my mind ! And all the rest, fast, furious magic. I found out yesterday he made a DVD, too bad it does not look like there is much about the stage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW1tPnhuhSo |
