I tried this in a restaurant last week and it went over pretty well. I just learned the routine a few weeks ago and thought I'd give it a shot. I used it at two tables.
I tried it at a table with a mother and her 3 children. Everyone got to tie a knot and then I had all of them tie multiple knots in the silk at the end. I also used it on a pair of gals. As my confidence in the routine grows, I'll work up toward having a couple gentlemen doing the tug-of-war before the knots melt apart. For now, it's a nice routine you can do at the spur of the moment to a group that you know won't ruin the silks. I recommend it. Quite entertaining. Especially for the kids that think they're stronger than their little sitster. It's funny when the little sister can take apart big brother's knot just by blowing and pulling the silks apart. Anyone else use this ? Frank

Peter Wardell (in the UK) gets a GREAT reaction from this, as part of his street performer act.
I cannot recall anybody building up an effect better and getting a huge round of applause because of this build-up. (His Cups & Balls routine is pretty excellent too!)

Do you use any special silks for this routine (e.g. the 'official' Slydini Silks) or do you use any strong silk like material, such as polyester?

I tried just using plain old silks from the magic store. I could feel them ripping a bit and eventually bought the real thing.
They are slicker than plain old silks and the knots do "melt" apart easier. Frank

Frank, I also use the routine in the restaurant I work in. I'm also developing my presentation. I use the marketed white "silks"; they work better than any other material I've used. You can also get some ideas from the Malone dvd's.

Steve Draun markets Slydini silks in red. They last longer because they don't show dirt or fingerprints.

I've just bought the white Slydini Silks after the other posts here. They do work much easier - the knots almost seem to dissolve themselves.
However, I can imagine them getting soiled and dirty on the first evening when working, so Steve Draun's idea sounds ideal - Allan have you got website/contact details for these red silks? |

There are actually special silks which are designed specifically for this routine. Slydini himself had them made for him. They go by the title "Slydini Silks" (simple enough). They are made out of parachute nylon, and they will last a long time. Unfortunately, they are only made in White.

Get Steve Draun's "Silks". You'll be able to leave them to someone in your will. They are made of Red parachute nylon.

I remember seeing Blackstone Jr. perform it on a number of occasions. It looks very magical, even on stage!

As someone with a skydiving past (in my foolish youth) there are a few types of nylon used for parachutes. Depending on what type is used for the Slydini silks, it comes in many colors. You have to know where to get it. From a rigger's shop (as in parachute riggers.)

Steve Draun's website doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have his email address?

Just an idea:
Take 4 Slydini silks and knot 2 together. by a false count show 4 seperate silks. Take 2 and put in a gentleman's pocket. Take the other 2 silks and do the knotting of the silks. The knots will vanish and show the silks in the man's pocket are tied. Maybe knot original but just a starting point to something else. |

The DRAUN silks seem like the ones to get if your goning to perform this. The red is much brighter than the white and show up much better on stage.

Anyone have trouble with the silks getting a bit wet doing tablehopping?? I have Malones Dvd and he mentions that he had to cut them with scissors once when someone with damp hands tied them...
