All,
I am going to see DC's show in AZ on 17 Mar 07. I wanted to see if I could meet him to get his autograph and maybe a picture. I have seen other magicians pictures with him and wanted to know how they were able to meet with him. Was it chance or can you buy a backstage pass? Please let me know. Thanks for the help. Patrick |

Visit the message board on David Copperfield's website. You will be able to find out how to meet him.

Several years ago David was in the lobby after every show signing autographs, but he no longer does this.

Anyone have any interesting stories about meeting him - either in the "outside world" or in the autograph line?

You have to email his crew well ahead of time, and if you get a response, then that's a good sign. Bring a copy of that email to the show.
Like sethman said, visit his message board, there are more details there.

Takes a while for them to respond (days). Also, post on the forums at DC's web site. TKO (the moderator) will usually try and help ya out. She might be able to speed things up some. I didn't get a chance to meet him when he was in town (found out afterwards you could sign up to meet him if he had time), but I did send in for an autographed photo. He sent me 2, one for my son and one for me, which he even personalized. From my experience they run a pretty top notch organization.

Chris is a very nice guy. I really enjoyed visiting with him while he (and Copperfield) were here last Wed.
As far as meeting Copperfield, just ask one of his crew members how to do a "Meet and Greet". They'll let you know. A lot of it hinges on how David is feeling. Don't expect too much talk... David comes out for a matter of minutes and goes back to his bus or wherever. Any questions you ask are answered by "ask him/her?" and directed to the back of the auditorium. Compliments and a "thank you" will more than likely go further. I've met Copperfield three times now and Chris once this last tour. I'd recommend meeting Chris. If you can catch him... he's twice as busy as David. Good luck! -Bryan |

Just remember that David is a busy guy, performing about 500 shows a year, after I don't know how many years...The most important thing is that he gives a good show! We magicians know how the illusions are performed, but I saw him 5 times and each time, I'm impressed. I live in Québec, Canada, and here, David has someone translate the show and he manages to keep his concentration, even if he has to wait for the translator to do his job...Each time, he even makes the audience laugh with all the translation! He is a gentleman, and a busy guy. And remember that his father passed away last year and he continued performing because I really think he likes his job a lot. I'm looking forward to see what his new effects will look like, he is always working to improve the show. Hope he will come back to Québec city soon.

I recall several articles/interviews with David where he even admits that he is not a very good socializer. He was a shy kid who was able to use magic as a way to socialize. David is a magic machine, that is all he does for the most part. I have been to several Vegas acts where you never meet the performer or performers after the show and that's after dropping $130 a ticket! He may not be talking to people, but at least he is there signing autographs and hanging out. As far as this statement, "And..no offense but calling him "the greatest magician of our time" is a matter of opinion. " True, everyone likes something different. Some people like close-up, stage, parlour, comedy, etc. I think he has brought a lot to magic and his illusions are awesome along with his performance.

I saw Mr. C in about 1990 or so in Dayton Ohio.
Awesome show, kinda small auditorium for someone like him. Guess it was just because it was at an Air Force Base, not sure, but all the seats were great and he performed longer than the program listed. No after show appearance that I know of. Thanks for the advice about the Copperfield website/forum. I would love to take my daughter (assistant in training) to meet him some day. Guess I need to start setting the ground work now.

I have met him a few times, both after shows. He was standing at the first row of the theater and would sign for you and a quick question/answer. He seems like a fine person. Great show!
