I know this has been discussed before, but I just thought it would be a good reminder to those who are like me that want to learn.
I have to say that Weapons of a Cardshark 2 was good. Someone quoted a few days ago on a review that some of Jeff's discriptions were a little short. In a dvd that teaches you how to cheat at cards, you really need to learn how to pick-up stuff on your own. I am not trying to be abrupt, but if you depend on someone else to always teach everything in the greatest detail, no matter if they are teaching for free or on a dvd that you purchased, I am afraid you will have many many disappointments. "Reading between the lines" is how a lot of my hustling is learned. This is not directed only to the reviewer, but to everyone who is wanting to learn any kind of street knowledge. I am not the best at what I do by all means and what I invent is mostly garbage, but every little post written by doc, memph or other hustlers here on the forum, I grab up and lock away. The knowledge of these men is abounding, and when they speak I listen. Some may say more than others but there is a great deal to learn just in simple conversation with each of them. Does anyone agree with me that learning to hustle isn't a one time, one purchase? I believe hustling and magic both are ongoing processes that should not end unless you want to stop learning. Unfortunatly the magic part is fading away within me. Respectfully, Jeremy |

Being able to read between the lines, as you put it, is key in any endeavor if you want to be the best, or at least one of the best. Of course you can't expect to learn everything from a single DVD. However, Weapon's of the Card Shark and other similar DVDs are produced and sold for the purpose of showing/teaching the purported moves of the card cheat. They are not produced to teach one how to be a cheat (of course, they are used by some for this purpose). You can learn the former from DVDs, but not the latter (at least not completely). So, if the explanations in these DVDs are not sufficient, that deficiency should be discussed, as that is what the customer is paying for.
I'll probably be attacked for sayings this, but to be honest, I'm more tired of the reverence paid to the supposed hustlers on this board. I have no doubt that a few of the gentlemen on this board are the real deal, but the praises and compliments are overdone and, for the most part, undeserved. We should all learn what we can from those that are more knowledgeable that us, but the sucking-up needs to stop.

I only have one problem with learning from DVDs or books. Everyone else is learning it too.
Thanks for your honesty Daniel. In truth one can actually learn from just about anything or anyone if you keep an open mind. Someone who has no idea of any kind of hustling, could be a genius and not even know it. I have learned so much from my friends just playing some freindly card games. Respectfully, Jeremy |

Even though to some Jeremy may sound like he's sucking up but he's not, not if you know him. He's a straight forward guy and is direct. All he's doing here is stating the facts as he see it and to me he's correct.
For the record Jeremy is one of the best top 5 cold deckers that I know besides Andei. I have other students but these two guys I'd put up against many of you. Keep on reading between the lines because that's how genius' are born. Doc |

Unfortunatly the magic part is fading away within me. is it unfortunate or is it fortunate? In life, while we may be good at many things, one will only excel in what they are truly passionate about. perhaps, it was part of your schooling and the path you needed to take to study what you really want. Had you not been into magic, perhaps you may have not met people such as DOC. |

Actually, it seems to me that a good deal of the gambling sleight of hand techniques are now available, demonstrated and in many cases taught explicitly these days. Even the more esoteric moves and gaffs are accessible if you know where to look. And there are literally shed loads of moves and strategies to keep the enthusiast going for....well.. a lifetime.

C. Loubard you are absolutely correct. I am very thankful that I started magic. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Paul H the kind of techniques I am talking about are very well kept secrets. Don't get me wrong, but the majority of the moves that I enjoy are not published on a regular basis. Although you are correct in regards to there always being a way to learn what you desire if you know the right place to look. Respectfully, Jeremy |

As some one once told me:
“It’s no good knowing a lot. You got to know more than everybody.”
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

The best way to learn is to hang out with fellow sleight of hand artists. When I grew up in New York a large group hung out every Saturday which included such people as Darwin Ortiz, David Roth, Derrick Dingle, Ken Krenzel, Gene Maze, Harry Lorraine, etc. etc. etc.
So even though we learned through books everyone enjoyed fooling each other and providing tips to make moves foolproof ! Bottom line, while videos are good, books are better and hanging out with the best is by far the best way to learn. Bear in mind that learnin is a give and take proposition...you must also help and give ideas to the teachers and if you are lucky, you may even become better than your mentors ;-)
