Did anyone catch Donald Trump's "The Apprentice?" One of the teams used a magician and one of the contestants said that he looked like "Yanni on crack!"
Anyone know who this magician was? How about his web site? Lyndel |

I'm about to watch The Apprentice in half an hour. Let me tell you about Yanni. I was in one of those earth science stores and they played Yanni. At one point I told my wife that the only thing I liked about it was the drum in the background. We walked around the shelf and the drum in the background turned out to be some four year old kid beating one in the store....so there is nothing about Yanni I liked.

They surveyed 100 drivers who had fallen asleep at the wheel and crashed their cars. 82 of them replied that the last thing they remember hearing was "...and now a song from the new Yanni album..."

I believe that was Andrew Goldenhirch (sp?). If so he is very talented.

Thanks Magic Santa, I found the web site of the guy you are talking about. That definitely looks like the one that was on the Apprentice.
His site is at http://www.goldenhands.com/ Although Perusing the site, I didn't notice "The Apprentice" mentioned anywhere... I guess for good reason! I'm sure he is talented, but the clip they showed and the comment by one of the contestants did not present him or magic in the best way... Lyndel |

You may recall him from a TV magic special where he produced a live butterfly. I missed the comment but when I saw it was him I was surprised they had a negative thing to say other than about the way he looked, which is kind of like Yanni on...well, you know the story. I was thinking they should have hired a mentalist.

I thought that he was a joke. BUt as I find out he is for real. I mean come on the guy was working for trump and he acts like that. You can tell he does not work for corp stuff.
To me he looked like Criss Angel on crack. |

You clearly must have seen the full unedited show because all I saw was seven seconds and him using one joke. Andrew does corporate work and is a very talented and entertaining fellow. Check with the LA crowd. Do note he wasn't working for Trump he got a call from a pack of numbnuts who needed someone the next day and he had an opening. Why not do some research on Andrew and his work then you can comment on your superior magical skills. He does need a haircut though. Hippy.

I saw this episode of The Apprentice on the re-run Monday night. I actually saw Andrew perform at The Magic Castle a few years ago. I was blown away by his coin magic (and that takes a lot because I'm not easily impressed by coin work). I thought The Apprentice portrayed him to be something like Uncle Howard pulling the coin from your ear at family get-togethers. I was expecting them to at least show him performing the entire card trick.

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

I watched the episode with my non-magician girlfriend, who's a big fan of Goldenhersh. She just about fell out of her seat when he appeared on The Apprentice.
The short clip of Andrew that was broadcasted definitely did not do him justice. But keep in mind that he was performing at the event run by the losing team. I'm sure if that team had won, the broadcasted edit of the show would've looked much different. I would love to see the lost footage. I'm sure he kicked butt. My girlfriend and I have seen Andrew several times at the Castle and he's definitely one of our favorite performers there. Ross Hironaka |

Through the magic of editing, I'm sure that any one of us could have been made to look lame or incompetent if they were to extract a carefully chosen seven second clip from one of our shows. And I agree also that had the team who hired him won the challenge, the edited clip of him performing would have been totally different as would the broadcasted comments by the team participants. Editing is a powerful thing. It's important for us to remember folks that reality television isn't reality! Lyndel |

Of coure Bartle, and of those that saw it how many (magicians) do you think will do their next walk around show and say "Want me to find it the hard way or the easy way?". You would be surprised, maybe not actually, the name magicians I've heard use simular 'lame' jokes. They are loved by most people but nothing works if the spectator is hostile toward magic as the fellow in that seven seconds of film seemed to be.

I also don't think the guy in the clip was so much hostile to magic, just that he was hostile towards the guy doing the magic. In fact I am not sure it was even so much hostility as not knowing what the hell to make of him - another trap way too many magicians tend to fall into is being comlpetely unaware of the impression they are giving. The impression this guy was giving was totally wrong for the event (and given the sixth sense theme a mentalist would have been better suited anyway but I dread to think who they'd have booked and it would probably have been worse than the magician) and rather than acknowledge this and adapt he just kept pushing on. I am reminded of a Max Maven quote "A magician is often not an actor playing the part of a magician but instead a schmuck playing the part of an actor playing the part of a magician" (something like that anyway). I am sure the guy is otherwise successful and has great reactions and does great gigs - however this particular episode didn't do him or magic any favours. |

Andrew Goldenhersh is a fantastic magician - I am a big fan. There was a magician in the UK who was asked to appear on the second series of the UK Apprentice but he got left on the cutting room floor...
