After discovering Rene Lavand’s wonderful illusions through someone here at the Magic Café, I have decided to concentrate on learning his rountines: He being a one-handed magician and I being and a aspiring one handed magician it’s a match made in Heaven as they say. Well, while I’m waiting for one of his books “ Magic From the Soul “ to arrive I’ve been thinking of Christian patter to go with some of his illusions.
For ‘It Can’t Be Done Any Slower’, the theme would be that through God’s mercy we can always be separated from our sins. For ‘The Greek’ A parable about not leading others to sin. Mr. Lavand himself suggests this in his own patter. For ‘Why Do The Colors Alternate Themselves?, a lesson on how God brings order to chaos or how He writes straight with crooked lines. Now, I just love the ‘Three Bread Crumbs’. You can see it here http://www.mymagic.com/lavand.htm on volume two of his dvd series. Now I’m thinking maybe patter about the Trinity, how the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are separate but always one Divine Person. Now here’s a question. I was thinking of using the cup as a symbol for Heaven or God’s Throne since we traditional think of the Trinity when we picture it in our minds. (At least I do.) However, I would need to change the end of Mr. Lavand’s routine because he has the crumbs vanishing from the cup as a finish. We can't have God vanish from Heaven after all! Any ideas for an alternate ending my friends? Peace and all good…

I like the Trinity idea.
I'm reminded of the "Footprints in the Sand" poem. There is only one set of footprints in the sand and the man feels that he has been abandoned by God. He couldn't see God or God's footprints because God was carrying him. In the case of the empty cup. The father, son and ghost are there but not seen. Luck to ya, |

Hey Jaz,
Why didn't I think of that? Great idea. Thanks once again Jaz. You're turning into my personal answer man!

In addition to Jaz's suggestions, I just wanted to offer what I came up with for 'The Three Bread Crumbs'. I found a wooden cup in a dollar store that looks very biblical. I had the thought thinking about bread to do something about the Bread of Life, since the cup I found looks very much like a wooden chalice. I then had the thought to use the little Pepperidge Farm fish, since they could symbolize both the bread and the fish of the multiplication of the loaves and the fish. The crackers work because they don't make a sound in the wooden cup, and they're easy to manipulate. The patter could be specifically about the loaves and fishes and God's provision for His children. (Instead of just 3 breadcrumbs, I'm adding 10-12.) Or you could do the Trinity, having 1 cracker symbolize Jesus on earth, the other 2 crackers representing the Father and the Spirit in Heaven. Instead of simply separating the 3rd cracker, you could eat it to symbolize Christ's communion with us. Of course, you restore the 3rd cracker to show that the Trinity is still One because Jesus rose from the dead and is One with God.
God bless.

I like the Trinity aspect, God is not God unless there's the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All Three are always working as one...
The other thought that I had, one crumb could represent us (that would be the one you take out of the cup each time) Jesus said He would never leave us nor forsake us, and the scriptures teaches us that the Holy Spirit is always with us, and the cup could represent the Father, and we never escape our Father's loving care... Each time crumb is taken out of cup could represent something that tries to seperate us from the Lord... Just some thoughts. |

The possiblity of a final load of a small roll, coming back to the idea of the three being one. Three crumbs making one.
Bread of life works great. Perhaps the theme that we thing we do stuff that removes us from God. That some how we can mess up so bad that the Bread of Life wants nothing to do with us. Only to show that when we look, the Bread of Life is closer to us than we could imagine. (Playing off a little of the Footprints theme mentioned above). ReVjohn |

Rev. John,
Along the the lines of your roll suggestion, I'm thinking of having the cup over flow with bread for the kicker. I would need to use sea sponge to do it right. Too many crackers would make too much noise obviously. Plus pressing a large amount of sponge down should make it spring up and out just right I think. I'm going to try it today. God bless...
