Ball Through Glass is an effect that allows you to visually push a ball through a glass table surface or even a glass display case. The first time I saw this, I was blown away. I have this effect and just wanted to ask whether anyone else have tried this in their routine. Upon viewing the effect I was astonished at its simplicity but nonetheless impressed by its visual deceptiveness. This one can be very visual when done right. It does require a very simple setup (2 seconds) which you probably can not do in front of your specators. (On second thought, the setup is so simple I don't doubt it can be done with a little misdirection). Once setup, it could be left with little fear of detection as it looks very natural.
The beautiful thing about the Ball through Glass is that it can be done with a locked, completely sealed glass case. You heard right. Unlike melting point, you do not need your hand underneath the glass surface. You simple push the ball right through and it falls into a locked glass case. Feel free to comment. |

Clever, but for sales assistants in magic stores with glass counters only!

Actually I'm sure it can be done with a slightly lower glass coffee table.
Here's a demo: Its one of the effects shown. http://youtube.com/watch?v=HMHEka-KkQ0 |

You're right, but how many times will you be in that situation as a magi?

Well, truth be told, I've been able to pull this off with a normal height glass table (one of those ones you see in a restaurant's outdoor lounge area). I had a couple of other items (cards, closeup mat) on the table which lessened the suspicion of the ball. Spectators were seated around the table as we chatted and were oblivious even at that close a distance.
However, I understand what you mean, depending on the venue, stage especially, the angles could prove to be an issue. IMHO though this can be easily adapted to a closeup show. |

Brent has another handling that creates the same effect but WITHOUT the glass table.
Unfortunately I cannot tip it as it's not mine. He showed it to me after he released the DVD, I understand why he held it back, it's very strong. |

I did see this a while ago.
Even though I was able to pick off the method rather quickly, I still think it is a cool effect. Spectators like it and that's what really counts. I love the audience reactions. Leaves them forever fried.

For those of you who are curious. The effect is available in Decks, lies and videotape DVD by Brent Braun. Sorry I didn't mention it earlier. The dvd also includes the classic Torched and Restored card effect which was released in print a few years ago but now in video.

After you do the "push", the glass can be completely examined, top to bottom, left to right- nothing to be found. |
