Why is the sky blue: Summary
So, why is the sky blue? It is because blue light from the sun strikes the air molecules and scatters and our eyes perceive it as blue. Why is the sky blue: Short Summary Why is the sky blue, you ask? Blue in sunlight collides with air molecules and our eyes see it as blue. Why is the sky blue: Condensed Sunlight collides with air, scatters blue wavelengths. Why is the sky blue: Ultra-Condensed You are seeing things. Stop asking. |

the sky is NOT blue, it only LOOKS blue and the shade of blue depends on temperature, humidity and the amount and angle of sunlight available.
The question not WHY but HOW does the sky seem blue to us? As the posters above pointed out, our atmosphere is just right to reflect and refract light in the blue range of wavelengths.

I don't know why the sky is blue, he has no reason to be so and I have told him thus.
But blue he is, and I am afraid blue he shall remain. Maybe one of you can do something to cheer him up.

Ok so we all agree the sky is blue, or do we?
My question is: How can a brown cow, eat green grass, and make white milk?

Actually, the sky appears only blue (or black) if you speak English and aren't particularly poetic... It could "be" azure, cobalt, cerulean, etc. in English, but other languages produce bleu, liath, blau, azul, blu, blua, etc...
If you are blind, it isn't blue, it is "up". And if you live in Vancouver like I do, the correct colour would probably be gray... -bigwolf {*} -bigwolf {*}

The sky is blue, as an direct result of light being reflected off of the many kradulated staimein particles that reside amongst the atmosphere's dramasini layer, 45,213 feet above sea level.
And since there are lots of little tiny blue alien space ships flying around this dramasini layer, orbiting the staimein particles, it appears that the sky is blue, when in reality it is pink, due to the natural color of the dramasini layer. :) Steve |
