That guy is remarkable! And real nice use of the JW.
PS - Hey E, what did you think of the "Tiny Rings" vid?

JW is a sleight of hand move used in coin magic.

Great Clip.
Without getting off topic, where can I learn the JW grip? I've seen it done countless amounts of times, and it is incredible. Thanks. -cody-

A few facts on the "JW Grip":
"JW" apparently stands for "Jim Wilson, Sr.". I THINK it originally saw print in BENNETT'S FOURTH BOOK-by Horace Bennett, still available from Jerry Mentzer at magicmethods.com Horace Bennett had a lot of killer material. There are some gems in his books but the books don't look sexy, so most of the young guys don't read them. Mr. Bennett was a nighttime security guard in Virginia who would work on sleights and routines for hours, days, and months at work. He was a friend to many in the early years of the Raleigh Magic Club, which morphed into IBM Ring 199 thirty-seven years ago TODAY, May 1, 1970, thanks to people like Dick Snavely, Bill Tadlock, and Palm Bay, Florida's Dave Klaiber! Anyhow, the JW Grip has shown up on several vids, with Apollo Robbins using it in "Cultural Xchange Vol. 1" and Shoot Ogawa in "Shoot in Hollywood". Reed McClintock uses it on at least one of his vids, "Coin Ovations". Bob Fitch's name shows up when it was later called the "Fitch Palm". Maybe Eric has some more to say about video sources to study this sleight beyond this thread's starting point, where Cyril does it with both hands. Whew!! - Steve H
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Steve,
thanks for that extensive history of JW, you beat me to the punch about Bennetts Fourth and Cultural Exchange I & II!!!! IBM Ring 180 here in Richmond, Va is The Horace Bennett Ring and also home to one of Bennetts good friends, my friend and mentor, Woody Landers (who is also quite an accomplished and skilled magician himself). I think you've given any serious student plenty of references to locate material in both book and video medium to learn this phenomenal technique. Thanks again!

Incidentally, Godhandz uses this techique quite expertly himself... It was his artistic usage of the move that first inspired me to use it more. Ol' JW & Horace Bennett would be most proud, IMHO. Anyway, good history Steve and Eric on this wonderful utility move. It's great to remember or to find out where things actually come from...Always a real tribute given to those that originally gave and or passed something on in the craft. Good stuff! -MB
