For anyone here that may have seen the play or heard the music, is there any one song or part of a song from Wicked The Musical that inspires you, or brings to mind any certain illusions?

Hi Nyte,
I never saw the play neither heard of it in Europe. After a search on youtube.com I found a few trailers. To answer your question, the song Defying Gravity inspires a levitation, as done in the show.

"The wizard and i" inspires me a lot, but in a more "character building" way. I usually play this song in my dressing room (sung by Jon Barrowman), before getting on stage for magic.
But, as DG has its own levitationals income... I think "Popular" can get in some sort of "instant magician" routine. "For good" can go into a more emotional routine, about somebody who you are about to lose... Like vanishing in a DeKolta chair after a floating rose. Anyway, just brainstorming... MAGIC through life, fellow Ozians!

There is a Magician who already does all this
He is called "Charles and the Lady". They do Magic to 2 of the songs In "Popular", out of a empty box the pull out Magic "stuff" and dress up spectators and then they produce a dog and a kid out of the box, all while the girl is singing the song. They also do a dancing cane to a song about the Wizard. They do some circus work and have had their own show somewhere, very good acts. I believe he is on the Café'. Larry |

My fav song from the Wiz is "Home". Any ideas on creating an effect where you touch your shoes, and vanish to appear "home"?

The songs that most inspire me are: "No Good Deed" and "Defying Gravity". Defying Gravity is self-explanatory, and No Good Deed just has a great instrumental backdrop and hard hitting lyrics that would seem to go along with an illusion. This is kind of ironic, in that the Wicked Soundtrack is in my car's CD player right now, haha.

"Defying Gravity" and "What is this feeling" are my two favorites from the play
Illusion: Reality in the mind of the audience.

I think my favorite has to be the opening number... no one mourns the wicked.. the dynamic chords at the very beggining and then the chorus at the end..
I love this musical... I love theatre..i want to be on broadway one day..

Wicked is great. BiUT, I think that Stephen Sondheim takes over when it comes to musical theatre. Gyspy, Into the Woods, and many more to give some examples...Sondheim creates a sense of disonence within his music that really plays to the mood of the scenes and the plot of the play. It moves the musical in a forward motion and actually gives reason to be singing... As in many Rogers and Hammerstein pieces, the characters just suddenly break into song. In Sondheim pieces, yes the characters break into song, but with reason and with method...not because of the acting, but because of the lyrics, timing, and musical geniousity.
