I realized that one of the most common items in my school were rubberbands! So dose any one know were I can find a plethora of rubberband effects?

I recently asked the same question and ended up buying volume one of Dan Harlan's Rubberband Magic. I already owned volumes two and three but everyone says volume one is the best!
I suggest you pick it up...good luck. Cheers!

Just a quick thought on Rubberband magic. When I do kids shows I carry a rubber band ball in my case. I sometimes teach the kids how to do a rubber band trick. The simple one where it jumps from fingers to fingers as they open their hand. This rubberband ball makes it a little easier and actually a little more fun to hand the rubberbands out. I just bounce it to the nearest kid and instruct them to remove one and hand it around for everyone to take one. I just thought I'd share that.
Back to the question. Harlens books are great as William already mentioned. Ammar has a few things on Rubberband magic as well as Mike Powers. You also might want to pick up star gazer which I think is a very fun little trick. There's another trick out there called "Ebony and Ivory" that is a version of the crazy mans handcuffs. Forgive me but I can't remember who's that is. It's really just instructions to doing it but I like it as a follow up to the handcuffs trick. Ron Jaxon |

You sure you're not thinking of another effect, Ron? "Ebony and Ivory" is neither a variation of "The Penetrating Bands" (the original name of "Crazy Man's Handcuffs"), nor is it just instructions on how to do it; it includes a very special precision made gaff.

Ebony and Ivory is by Anders Moden, the creator of "Healed and Sealed". You can find out about Ebony and Ivory here:

There are three effects that I believe are the best rubberband effects
1 Chris Kenners missing link 2 Simon Araosons ringleader 3 Jeff Pierece Joining All these effects are inpromptu and the bands can be handed out for examination. vinny |

A good "Torn and Restored" rubberband effect using a single rubberband is Harry Lorayne's "Snap" in the book called "Hex"--A New Jinx Publication. Only one rubberband is used; no switches; no glue. Can be handed out as a souvenir at the end.

Where can I find 'Ebony and Ivory' in any books or videos.

Check my post above for a link to an on-line video and purchase information. This is the web site by Anders Moden, the creator, and as far as I know, is the only source for Ebony and Ivory.

I have been in contact with Anders Moden since finding his link (courtesy of hdoctor. As far as I've been able to determine, Ebony and Ivory is not available in any books or videos and is only available directly from the originator (Anders Moden). If I'm wrong in this, would someone please post a thread here and correct me (or send me a PM)? Turk

That's correct. It uses a very hard to make gaff, and as such isn't prime pickings for inclusion on a video or in a book, nor for manufacturing in the quantity that would be necessary to distribute on a wider scale.

The Joining (see above) is truly a wonderfull effect. Amazing. Especially since the spectator actually pulls the ring off of the band.
Does anyone do 'I'm with the Band'? It involves stretching a rubber band out, letting go of one end where it remains stretched, then snaps back on your command. It sounds interesting. -James |

Any more info on "I'm with the Band" I have seen a effect by a french guy that uses a hairband that you stretch out and it stays in place until you command it to snap back. Wondering if it is the same effect? Jeff

I agree that The Joining is a great effect. As for I'm With The Band, you'll need to wear a jacket in order to perform it. It uses rubberbands and not hairbands.

Well you guys convinced me..I purchased "The Joining" last night and will downlosd it tonight after I check my email and get the password.
I'm still toying with the idea of "Ebony and Irvory" but, I dunno...$57.00 is a lot to spend for a rubberband routine that you'll have to keep replacing the bands--at least if you want to use the original colors. Anyone here do the E&I routine? How do you like it; how does your audience like it? Do you think the effect is worth the money? Turk

Hey guys,
Talk about putting the cart before the horse--I downloaded "The Joining" and then was unable to perform the effect. Why you might ask? Well, it darn difficult to perform the effect without a rubberband! I'm going to go to Kinko's and see about getting one or two rubberbands (with permission) until I can buy a box of rubberbands. What size rubberbands do all you guys recommend? Somewhere I seem to recall something like #9 (#19?). Please advise. Thanks, Turk PS vinsmagic, Thanks for the post. I owe you a PM from your last PM to me and I also will contact you shortly. BTW, what part of the country is your zip code? Put more directly, in what city do you live? I'd like to know so that I don't call you at 4:00 am (your time). You can answer in PM if you'd like.
