The 180 Levitation.....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love the art of levitation. Its one of the effects everyone wants to see when you say your a magician. Their are plenty of levitations out their. Some gimmicked others ungimmicked. But their is one flaw I found. You can only do the certain levitation from one angle. Either facing the people, side to the people, or back to the people. I believe I have an idea that could solve this. You can start off at whatever angle you want. Sy your facing the people. You can then levitate. The turn on your side and levitate. And then with your back to the people levitate. A full 180 degree levitation. From three sides. People will then know what each side looks like. My idea is just that an idea but if it could be accomplished then I would believe it would be an absolute killer. I have an idea in my mind of how it could be accomplished. But don't know for sure if it is trully possible. What do you think?

I like the idea of using multiple levitations to make a seemingly angle proof levitation. For example, levitate using criss angel's method and let them see your back. Then continue to use I think icarus so they can see your front. Then maybe to balducci so they can see your side. But I believe Darryl Vanamburg (creator of black widow which is awesome) has a levitation called FLY that is angle proof, it's kinda expensive though around $1,600.

Much too expensive for a levitation! does sound great as it states there is not setup needed and you are always ready to perform. it also states that it is 120 degres angle proof. this is not as impressive. you can accomplish this with other cheaper levitations. for example with zero gravity, if the light conditions are good you can get away with it surrounded. I know that you want to perform without the fear of getting caught but if you practice a little and with some minor audience management you can create a levitation effect to baffle you audiences at a very low cost. I really don't think it is worth all that money to invest in just a levitation.

The levitation I am invisioning would not be nearly as expensive. I just think it would be great to walk up to a spectator and being able to levitate from wat ever side you choose or even being able to let the spectator choose if they want you to face them or turn around. This will make them think you can be surrounded. That if they were in front this is what it would look like, or if behind you this is what it would look like. You will be able to levitate as high as the criss angel version or the icarus version. But this is still just an idea that Im no sure is possible yet. I am trying to find supplies now for a prototype. I trully believe it would work.

Everything is impossible, until someone, someone such as yourself, comes a long and proves that it can be done.
I very much like the idea of a 180 degree levitation, and although I can conceive of no way of inventing a levitation such as this one, if you have an idea, milk it out for all of its worth. And after some more thinking who knows, it might turn out to be the 200 degree levitation, or it might turn into the 160 degree levitation, either way, it will still be (and I am going to go out on a limb by saying the following as I have not seen the effect) one of the greatest self-levitations thought of. Some ideas to help you think and clear your mind while you work on the methodology behind the effect: Find a comfortable place to sit, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and relax. Working on a method does not need to be rushed, take your time and make it wonderful. Write down everything, no matter how trivial and no matter how easy to remember; after you reach a "brain-speed" of 500 magic thoughts a minute, you won't even remember your name; and things that seem trivial now, may be crucial towards the end. Once you have a sufficient amount of notes, notes that have the possibility to turn into a solid method, find someone you trust and is a great magical mind and share your ideas with them. Make sure they are trustworthy however, as you don't want someone to go and perform your effect and call it their own. 2 Minds are always greater than one (and provide great company...usually...). If you need any more advice or if you'd like me to brainstorm with you by Skype, phone, or e-mail, send me a PM and I'll assist you in every way that I can; I really want to see what this will turn into. Best of luck on your new "project"! ~Magically Dave |

Thanks Magically Dave. I have come up with a method but have not yet been able to get the supplies and make a prototype. I am working on this right now. But if accomplished you can walk around and at a moments notice levitate on either side. The another side if you please. I didn't want to be limited to on position. With this your prety much free. I would love to find someone trustworthy to share my ideas with but do not know and magicians around me. This will probably take more than me to accomplish. If anyone is trully interested in helping me get this done and seriously go over my ideas with me pm me and I would love to talk. Thank you...

While it's a great idea to make a levitation as angle resistant as possible, it's very important that the benefit never be implied to the spectators. A good levitation appears to commence from an indifferent or incidental "rest" position. The illusion is greatly weakened if the "rest" position appears to be specific.
I know this is a fine detail, and many couldn't care about such things, but I thought it worth mentioning for those who do. Cheers Ben
