For those of you who have it, you will know what I am talking about. I got floaters (black dots in the field of vision) about five years ago and my doctor told me that it was alright and to ignore them. Five years passed... yet I continue seeing these black dots. I ask my doctor and he still says it's fine as it won't do any further damage... but the problem is, it's so hard not to ignore it! As far as I know, there isn't a cure to this problem other than to ignore it. But I find that just... impossible to do!
Any of you have this problem too? Charles... (post 700)

I have floaters too but there's nothing much you can do about it. If the doctor says its ok, then I guess it'll not be a problem. You'll probably notice it more if you look at a white background. Sometimes I notice mine but not all the time.

Floaters are protein chains that "float" around the liquid inside your eye. My Opthomologist told me that I have them for being out of shape. They are annoying, but nothing to be done. Truthfully I seldom notice them unless I focus on them.

It's more of an annoyance to me than anything. However, I look at it this way, as bad as my vision is, I can handle the floaters better than I can learning braille!

Here's the solution: They suck out your macular fluid and replace it with compressed air. Your eye eventually refills the volume with fluid.
Now, do you really want to go through that, or are you willing to live with a few spots? -Airship, who is willing to live with a few spots

Count your blessings. I've got RP and would love to be able to see floaters, or much of anything else out of my left eye for that matter.

I've got floaters, but they're not black. I only ever notice them when I'm looking at the sky.

Floaters also may be of embryonic origin. I have one in my right eye, had it as long as I can remember. A doctor once explained that its in fact a residue of a blood vessel, but I cant remember more spesific as that was ages ago. Sometimes its annoying (when it "pops up" while doing detail work on models) but mostly I hardly notice it.

They are annoying.
but I get them from when I'm working on the computer a lot it seems. or maybe when I get stressed. either way, I just realized I haven't had them in the past 2 weeks since my laptop was out for repair. they'll probably return.

Frances, I had that problem, and my ophthalmologist recommended I use eyedrops three times a day - morning, noon, and right before bed. She says it's due to dry corneas.
Just use over-the-counter drops. It has made a HUGE difference to me. Try it and see if it helps you.

I don't have floaters but I do have hearing loss and Tinitus (ringing in the ears). They say it can drive you insane, if you let it. Sometimes the ringing is so loud! It never stops and is always there. I don't know about floaters, so the only advice I can suggest is, try not to focus (no pun intended) on it? It's hard, I know, but you just have to keep trying. Hopefully one day they will be able to figure out how to cure it???

Floaters MIGHT be a symptom of diebetes which is related to weight and several other factors...

If you can perform on stage in front of hundreds of people, I've got to believe you can find the courage to ploop a couple of drops of saline into your eyes!
