Some of you guys know I live in the midwest. I live outside of St. Louis, MO. People here don't take kindly to street performers. I only have a few months left until my next semister of study begins. I desparately want to travel. To make things more interesting, I have a severe vision problem, so I don't drive anymore. I know that's odd for a 22 year old, but that's the way it is. So, I could use a sort of starter map if you will. Where can I go, what's the best way to get there, and who should I see? I want to spend the remainder of my summer performing. My doctors have informed me that it is resonably a matter of time before I completely lose my vision, I don't plan to sit around and wait on it. I want to see some great Pitches! I'm truely ignorant as to what I should do, and for that matter, how to do it. Veterans, I'm imploring you, some advice please.

To see buskers check out:
Boston, MA Key West, FL Boulder, CO Los Angeles, CA (Venice Beach, Hollywood Blvd and others) To perform: Same list. Most of these require a permit. Some are easy (just ask). Others require auditions or fees.

Check with Greyhound Bus. They used to have an unlimited miles pass that was good for all summer at a fairly cheap rate. Thaty would get you around to any city you wanted to work.
Also look at Chicago to busk at. You may want to check out performers.net That is almost exclusivly busking info. Peter |

Dave Thank you for the list. It will be invaluable to me. I really appreciate that. Peter, thank you so much! If I can obtain an unlimited miles pass, one of my dreams will have come true. I'm going to greyhound now. Thank you guys. I hope I can find somewhere to go, a way to get there, someone to see, and have a great time this summer.
Thanks Turner |

I was born with both congenital cataracts and retinoschisis (split retinas), so I sympathize. I spent the whole first 40 years of my life thinking I'd be blind for the last half of my life. I could drive until I was 45, though, so I did go for quite awhile. Three years after I quit driving, I had both of the lenses in my eyes replaced with plastic ones. Wow! What a difference! I saw the world with clarity and bright colors for the first time in my life!
I'm back driving again, and things look good. I still have the possibility of the retinas tearing loose, but it hasn't happened yet, and hopefully they will hold off awhile longer. The thing is, medicine is learning new tricks every year. Even if you lose your sight, I'd place even money that they'll find out ways to help you in the future. But in the mean time, enjoy life and see the sights. Make some good memories. And may God go with you!
