Does anyone have tips on cutting briefcase foam inserts so that you have a smooth bottom to your cut? I've tried an exacto knife but am getting an uneven cut at the bottom.

Just cut all the way through and then cut a 1/2" thick piece of foam for the bottom and it will be uniform. You may ahve to get the 1/2" seperately.............

That's a great idea for customizing cases but what about one that came with the foam glued into the case flush with the top?

There are foam insets made that are cut into small cubes when you buy it. The cuts do not go all of the way through the foam, so they are attached at the bottom. All you have to do is remove the ones for the openings that you want by ripping them out. I used the inserts when I was in the photography business. I have no idea where I got them but I'll bet that google would know.

If the foam is glued into the case, very carefully peel it out. Then use an electric knife to do the cutting. Apply as little pressure as possible when cutting foam. When you peel the foam out, you may have areas where the foam is left behind. Just realign the foam you remove with those areas.
