Here's an idea for anyone who travels. I thought if it while sitting around with a bunch of performers telling 'lost luggage' tales:
Take digital photos of your luggage and carry printed copies with you. That way when they get lost, you can show the photos to the lost luggage counter person or even leave the photo with them as reference. I would also suggest posting the same photos on line. Also, follow these basics: 1. Label the bags (both inside and out) with your name and contact phone number. 2. Consider adding an copy of the itinarary of your flight INSIDE each of the bags. 3. Include a note for airport security that you are a performer and what they are staring at are PROPS (it helps if you write the note on stationary or include a promo photo). My note also begs them to be careful repacking my bag, since some of the contents are fragile and only fit in the bag with proper placement. BONUS HINT: Transfer all your airline club membership numbers to your cell phone - I have mine as a text file. Then you are never caught without those dumb cards they send you every year. |

Great ideas...thanks for sharing your thoughts! Too bad one has to try so hard to make sure their bags don't get lost in today's world of travel.

And, if your bags do get lost you should have a box back home that has your whole show in it (if it'll fit) so someone can just overnight it to the show.

How much are pictures going to help?
Is the problem that they don't recognise the luggage, or is the problem that the luggage is in Florida, and you are in Detriot? I think it is a good idea, but I am not sure how much it will help.

Steve,
I did overnight my show once and got confirmation by the front desk it is there and would be waiting for me, it was just in a big box. When I went to check in a get the box, someone misplaced it and I never saw that box again. Luckilly I have the show in a box back at my girlfriend's and she shipped it. There's a book out by Randy Pryor (I think) about great little things on how to survive on the road without loosing all your stuff and going insane. Might even be 2 books. At any rate, I'd like to hear some other suggestions as I think it'd be cool to hear other tricks/tips. Josh London |

Depends on the show you do. Peter has kind of a specialised show set. My show for example could easily be bought at Wal mart in a pinch. THAT was why I designed it as I did. I traveled a lot and it worried me.
I can, and do carry an "emergency show" in my carry on bag. BUT it consists of some rope, cards and so on. I can buy scisors on site. Not an issue with the type of show I do. Many such as Peter can't do that. While he could easily do a show that will pass, it is not the show he intends. Also consider this. For example when Peter came to Cancun to work, there is NOT OVERNIGHT SERVICE. So if it is gone it is gone. Many places in the US can't be overnighted too either. Florida Keys, Hawaii, and so on. This makes it impossible to do. Also what if you arive on the day of the show? Again trouble right?
