Well doesn't that feel restrictive!
and if he did market them after going through it with David...probably he will find himself in court.

Marshal....
I know some people who works with David and they do market other products... So I think there is more to the "Laser story" then we know.... The Paul D. clip was amazing....

There are always three sides to any story. My side, your side, and the truth. I don't know who's right or wrong as we only have one side of it here.
Steve, I am not saying you're right or wrong or taking sides. Merely curious as to what DC would say about the issue. But you said he was given rights for 2 years only. I know it's been longer than 2 years since the effect was seen on TV. Did I miss something somewhere as to why you can't market it? This effect is actually is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen!

"Laser" is a cool illusion. I remember that back in 2002 when I was working for DC, the one illusion in the show that ABSOLUTELY NOBODY except DC himself was allowed to handle was "Laser." No locals could handle it or look at it, the stage manager could not handle it. When "it" was done being performed, Chris Kenner would pack it and lock it up and it was not seen again. And of course the usual protocol of all local stagehands signing nondisclosure agreements was in place, as well as meetings with all house usher staffs explaining the importance of complete secrecy.
So for what it's worth, that's how serious they were about making sure nobody found out how "Laser" worked. --Jack |

Illusions Jack....
Well the trick is amazing, but I think it is simple for magicians to understand how it works.... So, locking it up and paying more attention to it then the other illusions I think is a bit funny... :)

Well, everyone here has basically listed out pretty modern effects. Guess I'm in the very small minority with the Floating Light Blub that Harry Blackstone Jr did. I also liked his Elephant Vanish from his Broadway show and Henning's Gypsy Moth from "Merlin". But the most amazing thing to me is that when ever leaving a Blackstone show, all I ever heard any LAY person talk about was that *** floating bulb. So that's why it's at the top of my list.
As far as Copperfield goes, I actually perferred the scenario he did with a young boy and his father and how the father vanished from his office to appear next to the boy at a Father/Son picnic. It had a deep emotional story to tell about parents not paying attention to what is important in Life. I regret he strayed from that philosophy in planning his effects to go off with the mega-sized illusions. |

I don't know if I have a favorite,
now that I think of it. I have a favorite something that's not an illusion though. just like the floating light bulb.

What do you think would play well on tv with our current tough audiences? Let me explain......As some of you know we recently did Britain's Got Talent which was a bit of a sham, but most of the magicians were getting buzzed out more or less right away, the judges all said they hated magic and Simon Cowell was quoted as saying "We've had a lot of varied acts audition with a large number being magicians of which 99 percent were dreadful!" Fortunately we were one of the 1% (LOL) as we got through to the 3rd round and didn't get buzzed once - but they just decided not to show any of our footage choosing to show the so called 99% which I have to say some were pretty shocking! My point being what do you think would work in that situation because if it's just another box.......You get the idea!
E.g Shahid Malik did his victory carton routine which he is renowned for over here and got buzzed out by all 3 and told they thought it was boring!! What do you think? Sean |

The truth is, I like David and have always said he dealt with me fairly. If I had it to do over again I would handle it differently. I consider David a friend. Unfortunately, friends and business don't mix well. As an old aquaintance of mine once said, "The only thing buddies and business have in common is that they both start with B." My frustration stems from watching others knock off the trick and release things evolved from the same principle, when I'm not allowed to go there. nuff said about this though! It was inconsiderate of me to redirect the topic. I apologise. Regarding the talent show.. I saw a clip of a guy who went by Dr Gore. The act involved a lot of blood and the judges seemed to love it. I was very surprised they liked it. I think they liked it because it wasn't a traditional magic show. Here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPBnpsHN4_4 Steve

I had an interesting conversation about this with my dad.
About creating illusions and what to do with them from there. Granted my father has created a few of his own stuff in his day. Still does in his head now. My dad is all about the old school and thinking. Today that is not how it applies anymore. All I can say is one word. GREED

Guys, it was completely set up!
They put Dr Gore thru so they could have an act the audience could boo off stage in the live shows! There is absolutely no way if the judges were making the decisions (and not the producers) they would have put Dr Gore through to the last 24, like they wouldn't have put through the dodgy middle aged Madonna act who also got booed off in the live show! Compared to the talent that they could have put through (and believe me there were some extremely talented people) in real life it just wouldn't have happened! It's not really fair on those acts who shouldn't have been there to be hyped up and believe they were really good cos out of 50,000 they are down to the last 24 then sent out like lambs to the slaughter just to make good tv at their expense! It was sooooooo blatent! And it was also not fair on the contestants with REAL talent that should have filled those spots! Everyone I know who saw the show were like "What the heck was that all about?" Sean |

I thought Blackstone's elephant vanish was very poor, time wise.Surely illusions have to be quick?! Blackstone waited an age it seemed before revealing teh vanish.
