Hi I'm Thomas,
The Christmas before last I had a shoulder injury and couldn't go out and celebrate. I signed up on a famous poker site and started playing. Yes, I'm ahead and improving all the time. Funny thing is I've ended up involved in magic after picking up the cards for real games and learning a few shuffles, slights and what have you. I have a nice little arsenal and have a presentable classic pass, spread pass, and I'm working on the 'Convincing Control' and culling so I don't have to DU any more. I've realised that I may not have enough time, since I'm soon to be 47 yrs old, to get any sort of finesse into it but for now I'm just enjoying learning and meeting new friends, showing a few card tricks and so on. I'm English and the only performer regularly on TV is Derren Brown, who I like very much. I've watched a lot of his shows and seen some of the Devil's Picturebook DVD. Having shown people a few things has got me really interested in the psychology of the observer. I've had some really bizarre responses and I'm realising that the where, when and what you show are very important but who you show it to may be the most important thing of all. I'm right at the beginning of this as you can see so maybe you can point me to some reading matter or good posts on the forum about audiences, personality types and their response to performance or just comment on your own experience in this regard. Thanks a lot, I've already learned some things here and had a few laughs. I'm riffleboy on aim and accringtonbonsai on skype and I'm online a lot, reading fora, playing poker etc and I'll be happy to chat so why not say hello. |
