Slim, I like to think I made that up, but I really don't know where it came from. I've been using it (over and over, according to my (adult) kids) ever since I can remember.

When I was in Romania several years ago, our Romanian guide made it quite clear that gypsies in his country were thieves and criminals and that justified Vlad Dracula's mass killings of the gypsies. The guide said that after Dracula's reign of terror against the gypsies, thievery stopped.
Gypsies , according to histories of their culture, prefer the term Romani because they believe they are descended from the Romans of antiquity-- a claim not substantiated by historians. They believe themselves to be the only free people. The country is beautiful and it is a great place to visit. In the countryside, products are very cheap by American and western European standards. |
