Does anyone have any suggestions for quick tricks that "look impromptu" that I can do for a waitress or while paying my bill at a restaurant. No cards.
Thanks, Al |

Michael Ammar used to do thing on his lectures, name escapes me at the moment, where he tore of a piece from napkin, wrote "Money" on it and rubbed some supposedly normal cream powder to create small fire effect and then rubbed it onto napkin and turned it on the fire into a bill. Also Greg Wilson had version of J.C.Wagner trick where packet of sugar was dropped few times thru the hand and it turned into rolled bill tip was inside it. Both very nice effects and wont really take more than 30s. First one is at least in Ammar lecture "Magic, mastery and you" and later one is at greg Wilson First video "Off the cuff"

Out of all of those I would say the bill switch or Jaun bill switch would be the perfect one... I can just see their face when you say this WHOPPING one dollar bill is your tip.... and as you casually fold it for her you say I'm just kidding... here's a ten... or whatever...
Fraud is a good one too, do it with a 20 and she'll trade one of her 20's just to keep the one that you gave her... :o).
...for the 51st time... that is NOT my card...

Although all the above reponses are great magic, the waitress may think "WHY?". With an unannounced performance I have found it best to make it quick and a natural thing to do under the circumstances. Solving a problem with magic is ideal.
To make it a 'natural' situation, best to consider what normally happens when you pay a bill? 1. You receive a receipted total usually in a wallet style thing. 2. The bill is checked to make sure it is correct. 3. You remove your wallet or card from your pocket to pay. 4. You hand over the money or card. 5. You receive change if applicable 6. You may decide to tip the waitress. The most obvious (and a wonderful) option is to find you are accidentally 'short' of cash when you go to pay (eg, your bill is $90 but you only have $10). You might get cheeky and take out a permanent marking pen and draw another zero on the bill and then hand this over acting as if you expect her to accept this. Should be very effective in drawing attention to yourself in preparation for the transformation into a real $100 bill which you use to fund the meal! Greg Wilson also has a great quick effect using a piece torn off a napkin and lighting it to produce a 'kiss' (hershey's chocolate kiss) on his 'G.W. In Action' series, this could be used as the waitresses 'tip'. Al Schnieder has an excellent money printing routine on his 4 volume series with a couple of phases. Another option would be to leave the billing wallet they give you on the table. As you go to pay, use a fire wallet with some flash bills inside. Ignite the wallet first as it opens, then re-close to 'fix' the problem (fire goes out). You then re-open the extinguished wallet and remove some bills to pay and suddenly these spontaneously combust as you go to pay. Act as if you have no idea what is going on and then use a TT to reproduce the bills from inside the restaurant's billing wallet that you left on the table (or reproduce from anywhere else that fits the situation). Cheers, Al

Gregory Wilson's (from AoA) simulated vanish of sugar in a packet (I forgot what it's called). It's a way of vanishing the sugar in the same way as you would with a thumb tip without using one.

Carry some dollar bill origami, like the bunny bill, or elephant, and just leave it for them..

I forgot about the greg wilson sugar change routine, its called sugar shocker. if I'm correct its on his off the cuff dvd and in magic for dummies(great book despite its rather common placings). I'm serious about twisted though it will absolutly kill the waiter or waitress. if your seated go for the wilson routine, but if standing I would perfer twisted over anything.
