Scientific truth? I would've thought being the experienced a hypnotist you are Danny that you would know people respond to suggestion outwith the stage context.
Training prestige car sales people to use commands and removing fear resulted in new sales records being created at a dealership I worked with. Plus the sale of add-ons increased in some cases of up to 400%. And Lee how can you argue with the news reel? The person was actually charged and found guilty. Plus its also a warning in MacDonalds training hand book. The footage of the security film and interviews with the girl etc? How could that be fake? |

I also stated that some of these things were part of a sociology experiment I participated in as an undergraduate. Maybe that wasn't clear. I thought I was studying social science, but perhaps I should mail my degree back. I also was confused in thinking that everything you do is an example of some scientific priciple and that the word "truth" is more akin to religion than science. I was speaking specifically about the influence of perceived authority which is well researched and documented. I think I was also under the false impression that this was an Internet discussion board and not a peer reviewed scientific journal and was the perfect place for discussing personal experiences. Thanks for setting me straight! |

Great sarcasam noted.
But as it has been shown relating personal stories and passing them off as if they are scientific experiment, well just does not fly

My intention was only to say that the effect of authority (along with other factors of psychological influence) has been shown experimentally and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. I have actively "experimented" with many of these principles with some success on my own. I realize that an experimental group of 1 is statistically invalid. In the same way I believe that my butt sticking to my chair is the effect of gravity, I believe that some of my personal social demonstrations show the principle of authority as an influencer. I was also intending to say that these things are social-psychological phenomena and not paranormal in any way. Human beings tend to behave in fairly predictable ways. I am currently attending a series of lectures in Behavioral Economics put on by my employer. This is an emerging field of study centered around how people make choices. Everything I have seen from the different experts shows that humans are indeed illogical, and can be influenced using well studied principles. Calling it "the force" in the topic was, I believe, meant to be tongue-in cheek. |

Well humans behave in VERY predictible ways in general. I certianly agree.
"The Force" was not really tongue in cheek, if you knew the guy you would know that LOL. I agree manipulating people is not that tough especially when they are in what I term "industrial situations". What I mean by that is the people at the hospital. They are not behaving normally but as the "book" tells them. So throw them out of the box and most have a GRHAOGH moment. Rather than admit the confussion they experience they let it go. "No harm no foul".

Is there any substance to the story of Wolf Messing's "psychic" bank job? Or does it fit into the category of myth.

I saw a similar trick recently on Derren Brown's Mind Control show. He supposedly bought a $4000 piece of jewelry with blank paper.
I don't know enough about Messing, but would love to read more. |

Then you'll like this: http://home.hetnet.nl/~ex_baba/engels/ar......WM_2.htm
(sorry, I don't know how to hyperlink stuff so I hope it works if I just post it) To be honest, I found the article interesting, but a little muddled. |

Thanks Laura,
From what I read here this is what I get: 1. Messing was psychic performer who did some feats on stage commonly done by mentalists. 2. Many people, including Sai Baba's camp, have made up stories about Messing. 3. Nobody knows for sure whether he ever did any demonstration for Stalin. |
