It is with a saddened heart that I report the passing of a dear friend to magicians the world over - Jack Barrows. I have known Jack for over 35 years and most recently for the past four years was our sales manager here at FAB Magic in Colon, Michigan. Jack leaves a legacy that lives on in the hundreds of lives he touched both inside the magic community and beyond. He was a very caring person who was always there to lend support. He took many a young magician under his wing - including myself - I had a hare brained idea in 1973 of putting together a magic convention in Indiana. I was fifteen at the time and no one gave it a chance...besides my parents encouragement, Jack was there - to support and help in more ways that I could ever imagined. He wanted nothing - just the opportunity to help give a kid his "dream" - he did that for so many - there are many stories to tell about this wonderful human being. Tentative plans are to hold a memorial service during magic week August 1-4th - a tribute to a man who always thought of others before himself....I will miss him ------Rest in peace my friend......Rick Fisher

I only met Jack once several years ago when FAB was just getting started and found him to be one of the nicest and most sincere guys I have ever known. The magic world has lost another one it's "good guys".

I've been very sad to hear from Michael P. that Jack had passed away. I had only met with him in person twice and spoke through emails and letters occasionally. He did indeed offer much support for most that he met and I was no different.
Even when I first met him, I felt that he had something to tell me, and his words echo through my head still today. -Martin |

I first met Jack many years ago when he lived in Indiana. I remember that he published a magazine for magicians that you could get for free. Later he charged very little for a subscription. I believe it was called THE MAGICIAN.
Jack was a great guy. He worked for Abbotts and I remember one Christmas he was going to be all alone, so I invited him to spend Christmas with my family and I. I had lost contact with Jack, so was saddened to hear of his death. |
