Something sneakt went on there when the editing came in. The camera is at a bad angle, it cuts just as you get it into position, but you can see that, then you can see it in the other hand, with you moving it with your fingers down by yourside. I have seen lots of Signed Cards to spectators pockets, which, no offence, looked better than this and didn't need an edit. Apollo Robbins for one has one of THE best signed card in spectators pockets! James Brown does a great, 51 cards to spectators pocket!!!

And, people put down my videos! *laughs to self*. One continuous shot from beginning to end because ANYTHING could take place during a cut from the effect in progress!!!

I agree with one continous shot, that would give a much better idea of the performance standards and practicality of the effect. However, I also understand the gist behind a promo. It's a taste of the effect, even professionals do editing, sometimes a bit too much. It all really depends on your intentions. If this is being marketed you'll want to be as honest as possible without giving away too much. In these instances if you can't perform an effect with a continous shot, which I understand sometimes you simple can not, then no demo might be better. On the other hand if this is just something put together for fun I'd say good job and keep having fun with it.
As far as influences, I personally think its annoying when people put others on a different level based on their influences. Yes, Blaine and Angel are big TV guys, master editers, etc. etc. They entertain and that's all that matters to me. Yes, a lot of young magicians are going to be influenced by these guys. I was too and I still enjoy watching the specials when I see them on TV. I don't get all magician on myself and start hating on them because of their method or styles of performing. If you are in fact influenced by the street magic of Blaine or Angel, that's fine. Influences are always nice to have and as you grow as a magicians you'll only become better and learn a lot more. Iv'e went from Blaine copycat, to mentalism wannabe, and so on. Finally settled into a brand that I enjoy. You will too. Ron |

Bad influence absolutely I couldn't agree more. A bad influence is someone who discourages learning and growing as a magician. I must say we do not know Mitches influences, thus that assumption given earlier was judgemental. If in fact his influences are street performers like Angel and Blaine, who is to say these are bad? Street magic is a genre, while it may not be your or my cup of tea, its going to be for many young magicians and that isn't a bad thing. More importantly, when I say grow as a magician, I'm hoping that these magicians will use this resource as well as many others to eventually understand what else is available and all the other professional street performers, some of which you and I may respect more than Angel and Blaine. It is my hope that after a few years, many young magicians won't necessarily begin to dislike Angel and those alike, but simply realize the differences of what they do compared to other professionals that are much more repsected in the magic community. I was in that stage too.
I'm only 23, but when I was 16 I wanted to be just like Blaine and I was doing his effects alike. After doing so it inspired me to become better and search for what else is out there. Unknown to me at the time, there is a wealth of amazing material out there and a lot to learn. I have grown as a magician and am currently on the other end of the spectrum. I do not perform Blaine or Angel effects necessarily however I don't regret being in that moment because that's what sparked my interest to better myself in this craft. Ron |

When you are influenced to do things that can NOT BE DONE without the camera tricks, then it is bad.
To be inspired is one thing. To be influenced, is completly different. To aspire to be as unique as either of the mentioned, is FANTASTIC, to copy the bad habits, well that is bad. See this kid thinks the only way to do tricks is by camera editing. Do you REALLY think that is a good thing?

I still am not speaking for Mitch, he has not mentioned anything of influences. In general yes, Angel and Blaine use camera edits. Most young magicians who watch them and want to emulate, aren't going to film themselves with camera edits. They can, but it won't do much but entertain them and their friends. On that note, most will seek alternatives to achieving the effect they saw. Once that is done, they may come across a lot of "good" material they werent aware of. Lets say Criss Angel does some edited card to impossible location that a young, not so knowledgable, magician wants to mimic. He obviously will not be benefited by the Angel method of edit and will hopefully seek alternatives. This should bring him right in the world of the many card to impossible locations by David Regal, Lennart Green, Vernon, Marlo, and on and on.
I completely agree with you on the general statement that, a lot of these younger magicians want to do everything they see on T.V. and that could somehow have a negative influence if they are trying to be "just like Angel." I just like to recall now and again how I was as a young magician. Basically, they don't know any better, and will hopefully learn about the magic of television and the not so honest truth of such performers. Ron |

I still can't figure out this hood and mask phase kids are in when they make youtube magic videos. I know he didn't wear a mask but used the hood to hide his face. Why are they hiding? Where they influenced by the masked magician too?
It seems they missed the lesson that teaches us that the magician is the most important part of a magic act. Yet the one thing they're hiding is the magician. Ron Jaxon |

We all hope they will learn Ron, as their is much to learn being a young magician. I'm not sure why either but hopefully with these resources available to them like the Café, we can stear them in the right direction and offer good advice such as, quit hiding yourself show us who you are.
