I've been cursed with dry, slippery hands. When I'm supposed to push one card off another, the cards will often stay together, and my thumb will slide over the card easier than the cards slide over each other.
I've already learned some good things to use on them, and perhaps these will be helpful to others who know even less about this than I do: •I know you can buy a spray-on lotion for magicians, but it looks pretty expensive, and I haven't tried any of that yet. Have any of you tried it? •I've found certain types of Eucerin work very well for both cards and coins, but Eucerin makes a lot of different products, and I can't always find one that works. Some of their lotions and creams actually make my hands more slippery. •I discovered a while ago that the Ex Lax brand of Milk of Magnesia gives my hands EXCELLENT friction for both cards and coins, but makes them look like they're all stained with some kind of white stuff. (Which they are). I later tried a generic store brand of Milk of Magnesia, and it didn't work. •I've also had more experienced magicians tell me about Vagisil. Yes, Vagisil Intimate Moisturiser. Go ahead and laugh. I find it excellent for cards but a little disappointing for work with coins. By the way, the labels - front and back - peel off the plastic bottle very cleanly so you can relabel it as "Magician's Lotion" or whatever you want. I hope this helps any of you who have the same problem with slippery hands, but I'd also like to ask if any of you can suggest something better or anything that works just as well but lasts a long time. Hi Jim,
Welcome to the ranks of the aged. If you can find a copy of CLOSE-UP ILLUSIONS by Gary Oulette, he has a "recipe" for dry hands that works well, If you can't find it PM me and I'll send it to you. Dave |

Jim,
I may also use pure vaseline. Apply the vaseline to your hand and work it in well. After that wipe your hand thoroughly with a tissue, leaving no seen trace. It works well for me and may work for you. By the way vaseline may not be the liquid form called baby oil, only cream of vaseline works.

Jim-
I know this sounds weird, but "Zim's Crack Cream" is the simple answer to the dry hands problem. You will find it in the first aid section, not the hand lotion section. My long time friend and fellow Texan Lonnie Chevrie clued me in on this. My dry hands problem no longer exists. (I'm an old geezer too. So welcome to the group.) Good luck, Gerald |

Go to Walgreens and get some Walgreens Glycerin & Rosewater Skin Protectant. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on your hands. It is cheap and it works. Hope this helps.

"Golden Touch" Lotion is available in most drug stores. I have been told that that was Marlo's favorite and that it is, in fact the very same stuff that is re-packaged and sold in a spray bottle for magicians. I have used it, and it works well for me.
I have also used Glycerin and Rosewater, as Lee suggested above. It, too, works well, but the fragrance reminds me of an old lady's boudoir. Don't get me wrong.... I like boudoirs.
