I know there is a forum for “where to keep it” but cant find anything linked to escape stuff.
What I am wondering is what you guys do to arrange all your escapology stuff. I am incredibly disorganised at the best of times. I am sure I will come up with something – but I would rather do it as cheaply as possible – by getting ideas and doing some research rather than going out buying something seeing it don’t work then starting again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys. Dave |

I lay it all out the night before the show. I look at it, put it all in order. Then I check my routines to see if I am missing anything or need to restock something. I lay it all out again backstage in the same order of use. That is about it.
Magic is like Science,
Both are fun if you do it right! |

Thank heavens I use Chains and Cable ties and such. Allows me to just carry it quite easily with me onto stage. But I normally have to put the chain out before the show. So Matt, that is a good question. I have never had to perform after someone else where I would not have the time to put the chain out before my patter. 8OS
Now you have gone and scared me. I would love to hear the other performers answers to this.

I'm all set to move house, and I'm only now realising how much escape stuff I have.
Things like the chains and cuffs will pack easily enough - but the milk-can - that's another story! Explain that to the removers !! Robin |

Flight cases for each unit escape with a check list and prompt patter card inside each case.
Take cases required on stage with you (This hides the prop/props so adding a further mystery>>>What`s in the box?) Do effects ditching all back in their box upon completion>>>Clean act>>walk off leaving a clear stage. According to the type / length of act required = the number of cases on view. All are fitted with lockable wheels, so on off no problem. To transport to gig = Box Trailer (Also adapted to use as own mobile stage unit)Box size minimum 5ft deep x 6ft high x 10ft long, single axle tows easy behind saloon car.Note box trailer is adapted with a sound and light set, sleeping arrangement, porta potty and cooker. So work anywhere and everywhere being able to be self supported in every way = happiness!! OK Ken. |

Thanks Guys. Nice info here.
When you use Chains or Rope, etc. Do you Unravel them yourself on stage? or do you make the spectators do all the work? If you unravel it yourself (especially for chains) any advice to not have them knot up? Or loop over themselves?

Cobra coil chains into a box with a free end clipped to the top inside edge. Give to specky ask him/her to just keep pulling and it makes for a nice display as well as giveing the illusion that the chain/chains are longer than they are.

My "toys" have taken over the house. I completely monopolized one double, walk-in closet and filled it with those plastic, 3-drawer units you see at discount stores. That way I can seperate items by type. Bags of chains and heavier items line the floor.
Next, I have a small barn out back filled with totes. Each is labled and stacked with like items. Finally, my bedroom (don't laugh) is filled with handcuffs (I like to see them on my displays and no other room is big enough). So each wall is coverend with open cases of handcuffs. Then there is an 4' x 4' cubby where I stack supplies, again in totes and labeled. When preparing for a show, I have several large, roll-around, pull-up-the-handle type suit cases I roll around and gather what I need. When I return, each is placed where it belongs. This is actually funny because in every other aspect of my life I am totally unorganized! |
