Well, I already posted this, but I don't see it, so I’ll try again!
My name is Chris, I am 18 years old, this is my senior year in high school, and I want to end big!!! I was, you can say, "forced" by teachers and students, in my classes, to perform in the talent show. After thinking about it I accepted. I have only a couple of months to prepare. My talents are fair and I was thinking of doing this performance in order: Mask changes Cane magic Balloon routine (balls from mouth, ball off balloon, etc...) Card productions And the big finish - Gene Anderson’s “Torn and Restored Newspaper”. So I am looking for any tips you can offer, what you think, and most importantly.... WISH ME LUCK!!! LOL!) Well tell me what you think, thanks in advance. -Chris

The balloon stuff sounds cool. What music are you going to be performing this to?

Chris,
I wish you all the luck. It takes guts to perform before a crowd. I'm sure you will practice so the routines are second nature and flawless. There is a mental aspect that is equally important. You need to believe that you really are an exceptionally skilled magician and when you are cued to perform, you go into that Zen like state exuding confidence. Believe me positive thinking is key. Before I go on stage I visualize the act like a movie. Just before I go on I say outloud to myself "It's Show Time" and it's as if a switch was thrown in my brain and I seem to go on autopilot. The more you perform before real audiences the better you will get. |

I agree with the Count. It takes guts. Just don't perform anything that you haven't perefected or don't want to perform. Perform it to your mum and dad first to see if they like it. get them to criticise. Best of luck

Thanks for all of your help everyone, I just performed last friday the 28th of Feb. and it turned out great, except I messed up on the torn and restored newspaper, because the clip didn't hold all of the peices together. I did change the act up a little, I used d'lites and card manipulations with a disappearing cane. All went well, and they had it playing on the local T.V. station, so I got to be on T.V., YAY!!!
