I was wondering how many of the effects appear sleightless to the spectator.
Pursuant to one of Darwin Ortiz's postulations in Strong Magic, if a transposition colour change etc... occurs accompanied by a noticeable hand movement then the effect is not magic but slieght of hand. Whilst the spectator may appreciate the skill, the effect is a puzzle rather than generating the illusion of impossibility that magicians should strive for. The effects that I find most magical tend to be those that are devoid of flourishes and overt colour changes. By 'overt' I would contrast the spin change (involving a lot of movement) as a overt colour change, with the classic colour change (a simple rub - covert). |
